Advice on building a portable CB box for trucking.

I just got a job hauling Intermodal containers. I will be using company trucks and mostly doing local deliveries. I am looking at making a box to put a CB inside of and possibly a radio later on. I was wondering if anyone has one of these (or has built one)??? I am looking to keep the size to a minimum so I can easily transport it from truck to truck.

I have a Cobra 25 NW LTD classic to use, and it will be sent off to get peaked next week. Other than that I am starting from scratch. Ultimately I would like to have a: CB, Radio CD player, side mounted 5" speakers in the box, but for now I am just planning on the CB with space for the rest later.

So for you guys that have built these boxes, do you have any advice for size, shape, deminsions, materials, power options?

The current plan is to try and use lexan for the box so it will be light and I can see all the internals and easily (visually) trouble shoot if something stops working. I planned on using the cigerette lighter for the power supply and then adding a 12V outlet on the box for something small like a cell phone charger.

Do I need to do anything with the electronics like a capactor / filter to keep the voltage up, or will the trucks lighter supply enough power for the CB and radio down the road?

I did some web searching for this stuff but really didn't come up with anything... Any "How To" trucker sites out there???

Thanks in advance.

My dad has built a bunch of them. He liked to use a box that was already built like a big plastic too box. You can also get custom aluminum boxes but they are not cheap. I will ask him and see if he has any advice.

My dad used to use roller skate boxes. Not sure if you can find those any more or not.
