97 Grand Prix a/c comp. removal?

Hey all, got a friend of mine who's 97 Grand Prix shredded a serpentine belt, he seems to think the a/c locked up, which I beleive he's probably right. He's saying he's gotta jack the motor up (his words were to REMOVE motor!) to get at the thing, I can't see it being that difficult. Either way I said I'd give a hand for a few beers to put a bypass pulley in. It's a 3.8 V6, about all I know about it. Anyone know if there's any thing special to do to yank the old one? I've got a pretty solid collection of tools to bring with me, I'm thinking I can get to it through the wheel well maybe?

Thanks for any help, its about an hour from me so I'd like to know what I'm gettin into before I rip it apart is all.

Never done a Grand Prix with the 3.8 but I have done the 88/Bonnie ones, lower passenger side towards the front, there is barely room to get it out from the bottom, not terribly hard, just a pain because you are laying on your back and reaching up into a blind area.

P.S. if it is anything like the Bonnie, you have to pull both fans as well.

That would be pretty helpful! I think I'm heading up there on Sunday. I've got no problems diving in, but special tools annoy me.

Book time for ac compressor r and r is 1 hour. Remove belt, right side fan, right side engine slash cover, lift vehicle and remove from ac mount.

1 hour book tells me it's an easy job.

Good luck.

We had one. The engine is built so you can remove the dogbone struts at the front of the engine, and use a bar and roll the entire engine over pretty dern far. Gives you access to just about everything.
