If you had gone to the junior high I went to on the west side of Denver, you would have to question the type of job those tools were doing. I'd be rich if I had all that lunch money back!!!!

I do agree though, maybe that boy scout could get his anti-long-hair badge by cutting those hippies hair off, or using the spoon to scoop up some jello and give them some brains...

When did we turn the corner and get so darned uptight Kids just can't be kids anymore

I hope that kid and his parents stand their ground against these power mongers. These school officials need a good to knock some common sense into their heads. That reminds me....I wonder what Obama would say about this story.

My question is....who are the parties involved that have driven teachers and school administrators to be this way? Just appauling at the extreme measures and not so prudent ways of people today. Ok, I am done!

It seems today that "ZERO TOLLERANCE" is the catchword of education. The administrators can't seem to do a very good job at education but boy can they make sure a six year old does not have a camping tool.

What a great lesson to teach that young Cub Scout. The folks running the school don't necessarly have the education of the student as the most important thing on their agenda. Wait! Could that be carried out to cover the folks running the Nation?

Wink

^^^says the guy with the ponytail. heheh hey- if you can weld and fabricate steel without losing it, you have a right to be proactive for long hair.LOL

wow- hmmmmm when did things change? when the education standards got so low because no one wanted to teach. they felt they were above the stupid parents and dumb kids, got a union AND a lifetime job(tenure) and hated cops. when the kids still couldn't pass, due to someone just assigning book reading and lack of interaction; and frustration built, school Boards ignored the problem, can't get rid of ineffective staff or admin, and NO oNE talked to a kid anymore. that's when things changed.

we had discipline in schools, levels of expectation. support when ya did good.
explanations of wrong when you needed it, then a clean re start. you did not get 'pegged' as a trouble maker or such.....

I went to an inner city black high school from a private minority school.
felonies were committed, civil unrest, and untold threats with weapons. but communication, understanding and common sense let you go to class, walk the halls and go to the bathroom. It still comes down to someone's INTENT or actions, then accountability. There were no lawyers to hide behind then.

I like talking with the city kids now ( I teach peer mediation) because they take responsibility and ask the questions of the adults, and make a system better. no fear, they tell another student when they are wrong to do some stuff the staff/adults would run from.

whoops, tripped on my way off the soap box...

This was the same way it was in my school when I grew up (class of 96)
After the Columbine school shooting this all changed. After that no firearms on school property school was locked from the outside except for main entrance. And students an no longer leave during noon hour.

Every school board member was a Republican except for one . I cant blame the Hippies for everything.

When a boy scout gets suspended and Obama gets the Nobel peace prize all in one week, you know it has to be getting close to the apocalypse.

Get this, Up Here, the Saskatoon wants to create a bylaw stating any knife being carried is "a weapon". I carry a Leatherman for work (at the university) and doing so could be charged. Man, stuff like this is almost too much to take...

man I wish i grew up in the good old days, i always carry 2 knifes on me, one for using and one thats looks good on my belt! i have saved more birds and fish from tangles than I can count! But having that knife in my pocket in school got me kicked out, never took it out it was found on me when they caught me smoking. this is what is wrong with todays systems and the people running it. i didnt have to oppertunity to help my teachers with anything around the classroom because having a multitool with a knife on it meant getting expelled! This is way over the top and I wish the hippies would just let it go, let the kids play outside again, let the boys be boys and you know what, sometimes they will get hurt and hopefully they will learn from it! i bet if that kid had saved a teacher or something by having a knife it would be a whole different story!

one of the comments poster was dead on...like the Boy scouts are such a threat..... having been to the national Jamboree with 172 scouts from NY/PA it was great to see how many soldiers were former boy scouts. they all wore their rank on the Army uniforms, great sight!

yeah, something about standing up, speaking out, morally staright, truth , noesty and fairness scares liberals/politicians.....sad.

boy scouts really does benefit the majority of boys now- both parents around but working, no time for the important conversations or family outings. can't tell you how much difference ti made in the lives of scouts with no father around and low income. proud of these kids!

you can't wear a scout uniform (cub or boy) in our local schools.

Maybe more appropriate for the teacher to sieze it for parents to pick up? I'm not so sure a 6yo has developed the skills to hide his emotions enouph to decieve an adult if he was truly intending to harm someone. Maybe someone at the school has an agenda against the BSA?

I often times went to school with a pocket knife or leatherman.... I just never made it obvious that I had it and nobody ever knew or cared. You only get caught with it if you are dumb.

That said, these regulations are out of control. The government is getting worse all the time.

they just showed on Fox News this 6 year old boy getting to go back to school and how excited he was, he didn't have a clue he'd sone anything wrong, he was a kid showing his friends his cool camping equipment

less than two weeks ago a high school honor student was bludgeoned to death outside his high school in Chicago and repeatedly kicked on the ground after being hit in the head with a large board!!!!!

something doesn't friggin compute when comparing these two

what in the world is happening to us?????
