No way this is third grade math. Even if the correct answer were included among the choices for the ribbon problem, that's well beyond the logic skills of a 10 year old. Then, the word problem.... Yes, time for a heart to heart with teacher. Bring an apple.

6 + x = 15
x = 15 - 6
x = 9

try it this way...

Blue = 6 + Yellow
Blue + Yellow = 15

By substitution:

(6 + Yellow) + Yellow = 15
(Yellow + Yellow) = (15 - 6)
2Yellow = 9

Yellow = 4.5

Yeah with the principal and the teacher.

They said it was a accident and that they will do a better job of proof reading homework before sending it home.

..... but they would be quick to jump all over your kid if they didn't proofread their homework !!

My wife is dealing with that kind of stuff right now. Young un isn't turning in his work... teachers say "he needs to be held accountable for his actions". We totally agree and sit down with them to make a plan to fix the problem.

Teacher offers to send an email when he doesn't stay on track ... all is good for a couple months until the teachers get bored with doing that. Going on 3 years of this same yo-yo action from them.

Back to the principals office to make sure that the teachers are also "held accountable for their actions".

Typical "Do as I say, not as I do" thing. Good luck with yours !!

Cheers,
PISTOL

Did the manual say "Made in China" anywhere on it? Mexico maybe? You think they would at least print ALL of the story that didn't make sense. With all of the words intact, you could verify the story didn't make sense. Now I don't make sense...

i have had a few beers and i even know the correct answer to the math problem. you guys that are comming up with 4.5. you have had a few too many. its basic math. it is 9 yellow because 6 more blue = 15 "wow". and as for the reading that just messed up.

6 more blue than yellow with a total of 15 means----------->

x+6=15

x=9

more=plus

I also came up with 4.5 ribbons... but this brings up another problem of semantics- how do you get 4.5 ribbons? Wouldn't that just be 4 long ribbons and one short one?

i hope you werent driving after you posted this..... the first problem says 6 MORE blue ribbions than yellow..... therefore if you had 4 yellow ribbions you would have 10 blue ribbions since 6 more than 4 is 10. and 10 plus 4 is ................. 14........... i think from here you can figure out that the correct answer wasnt providedand maybe you had a few to many to be doing math..... i'm just kidding
