We have one at the school I go to, its also used for rapid proto typing, I have designed a few parts that were "printed" they are really cool.

Jay Leno has one of those in his restoration shop.He was demonstrating its ability to make parts for his White and Stanley steam cars.

We actually use this technology with our investment casting suppliers to create cast prototypes. Saves in the up front investment of buying a hard (machined aluminum) tool to create the waxes that are used in the investment casting process.
