350/400 Whats it worth?

Hey all, Im getting ready to sell one of my trucks. Its a 79 GMC 4x4.
3 years ago I put a new 350 and 400 tranny in it. Since then Ive managed to put a whopping 100 miles on that combo. The motor and tranny are prob. worth more than the truck itself, and I have a feeling I may get offers just for that. Not really sure what to ask for it. The motor has an RV cam, Edelbrock carb and manifold and some other doodads. The tranny was rebuilt and had a shift kit installed. Any help is appreciated.

To the mods: I am not trying to sell this truck in this thread, if I was, it would be in the classifieds. Just getting Info. Thanks

Tom

CASmokin,
Please take this with a grain of salt, as that is about all it is worth. I have a built 355 with a race hydraulic cam, aluminum intake and Holley carb, 10.2:1 compression, reworked heads, etc, and I would be lucky to get $800 for it. For a 350 with an RV cam and an Edelbrock, maybe $500??
I also have a Turbo 350 trans that has been worked by one of the better known racers in the area, with a solid shift valve body, not a $79 shift kit. Extra clutches, both friction and steel. Barks drive when really pushing it. Maybe $500 with the torque converter. Turbo 400s are worth more, but not much.
I know this is not what you want to hear, but once it has been run, whether 1 mile, 100 miles, or 10,000 miles it is not worth a lot. This combo is not rare, and the price given will reflect that. Keep in mind this is a general note, not an offer for a solid price. Hope this helps.

If you aren't afraid to ship it or at least help with shipping it then I wouldn't sell yourself short. Those trucks fetch decent money in the North where it snows a lot. Around here they do pretty good. Lots of people like them for ranching, hunting, etc. Any 4X4 around here in decent shape sells for no less than $2K and in many cases more.

I hear ya. Im not afraid to ship it, just not willing to pay between $900-$1200 to do it. Now if somone wanted to absorb that cost that would be a.o.k by me

If the 4x4 works, best bet is to sell entire truck. Prices on engines and trannies are negligible, unless you have something rare, or really tricked out. Run of the mill powertrains do not fetch large money. Hope the sale works well, make a list of all the things that work, it helps when it comes time to sell. I have had trucks for sale for 4 months because I would not budge from a price, it works if you are not strapped for cash.
