Glad I am retired, I would not have made it to work today. I managed to catch a cold from the old folks home.
Its really not bad except for the nose that is plugged up and runny at the same time.
Thinking about hanging up a white sheet on the wall, drinking different colored food dyes and sneezing on it.
It would be better than most of the "art" at the Anchorage airport.
Morning.
FRIDAY, MARCH 16th:
1521 - Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan reached the Philippines. He was killed the next month by natives. Apparently the Natives of the Philipines were smarter than the Natives of North America!
1621 - Samoset walked into the settlement of Plymouth Colony, later Plymouth, MA. Samoset was a native from the Monhegan tribe in Maine who spoke English. He greeted the Pilgrims by saying, "Welcome, Englishmen! My name is Samoset."
1802 - The U.S. Congress established the West Point Military Academy in New York.
1836 - The Republic of Texas approved a constitution.
1871 - The State of Delaware enacted the first fertilizer law.
1882 - The U.S. Senate approved a treaty allowing the United States to join the Red Cross.
1907 - The world's largest cruiser, the British Invincible was completed at Glasgow.
1913 - The 15,000-ton battleship Pennsylvania was launched at Newport News, VA.
1915 - The Federal Trade Commission began operation.
1928 - The U.S. planned to send 1,000 more Marines to Nicaragua.
1935 - Adolf Hitler ordered a German rearmament and violated the Versailles Treaty.
1945 - Iwo Jima was declared secure by the Allies. However, small pockets of Japanese resistance still existed.
1964 - U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson submitted a $1 billion war on poverty program to Congress.
1968 - U.S. troops in Vietnam destroyed a village consisting mostly of women and children. The event is known as the My-Lai massacre.
1988 - Indictments were issued for Lt. Colonel Oliver North, Vice Admiral John Poindexter of the National Security Council, and two others for their involvement in the Iran-Contra affair.
1988 - Mickey Thompson and his wife Trudy were shot to death in their driveway. Thompson, known as the "Speed King," set nearly 500 auto speed endurance records including being the first person to travel more than 400 mph on land.
1994 - Tonya Harding pled guilty in Portland, OR, to conspiracy to hinder prosecution for covering up the attack on her skating rival Nancy Kerrigan. She was fined $100,000. She was also banned from amateur figure skating.
1994 - Russia agreed to phase out production of weapons-grade plutonium.
1995 - NASA astronaut Norman Thagard became the first American to visit the Russian space station Mir.

....Hey, I like the Anchorage airport. What other airport has huge bears and airplanes inside the building? Neat. Everyone needs a pic beside the big bear. I heard the bears up there call people on bicycles "meals on wheels." Is that right??
OK, off for another productive (I hope) day. See ya........

See I was thinking about one for your lawn. When you get done using it you could store it on the wall in your saw garage.

Scott, left you a voice mail today. Last night I didn't know how close that tornado was too you and didn't even find out about it until I got home last night.

Its just some of the "art" they put into the new terminal is just terrible. Looks like Andy Warhol and Christo got drunk and defaced some native crafts.
I guess I just dont understand "modern" art.

Later.

ok, surgeon called at 4:30 this afternoon asking how the nerve block went and what did it do. I was at least 80% pain free for at least 1.5 hrs. The nerve block showed us what was getting interfered with but it did not show where specifically. The doc wanted an idea of what kind of pain I have been dealing with. I showed him my LEGG that had the quad re-sectioned on Monday with a large ganglion removed and I told him the pain in my arm is still stronger then the pain in my LEGG. He understood then what I have been dealing with. The discussion this afternoon was about the extent of the surgery, the release of the nerve, recovery and rehab. I was assured I will be on the quickest list to get the repair. I am on call from now til the surgery and may get called the evening before the surgery. I can do that. I have tried to do all that I can to get this resolved in spite of all the interference, delays and mishaps with our health care and the arm chair doctors with their opinions and misconceptions. As my grandmother would say whenever a set back came up..."Forge ahead, you make your own Destiny while others may try and stop it. Stick with the winners and God."
I am somewhat relieved as well as nervous about what lays ahead for me. I feel that that is a good place to be. I am certain that I am not the only one learning from my situation. Some lessons take longer then others and can be more painful.

Enjoy the wknd fellow DTRonians!

We dont have HBO but some friends of ours have the Ice and fire books and said the HBO series was great. My wife really loves that stuff so I guess I will have to see it.
edit:
Glad you can stay so upbeat. I would go nuts waiting for an other go at the knife. Fingers still crossed for ya.
Hey! Now would probably be the only time I might get to arm wrestle you and stand a chance of winning. I better hurry down.
