I went to a double fatal not too long ago where two kids burned to death in the car. They were awake when it was happening but they were trapped. Since the crash, I haven't been able to eat hot dogs. The smell and the look of them when they are cooked are so close. It's disgusting. They died because their buddy drove like a moron and wouldn't slow down. Now their buddy is going to jail.

Speeding gets you nowhere fast.

Few years back in highschool I rode with someone who thought itd be fun to try to race another person.. Ended up going into a 15mph curve at 60+ locked the brakes and went straight off the road into a tree.

Why that happened.. who knows.. luckily no deaths, front seat passenger broke his arm cause he wasnt wearing a seatbelt and smashed into the dashboard.

Its all part of the natural selection process.

Guess we all gotta remember not only to watch our own kids driving but who they associate with as well.

I realize its a sad when young lives are cut short because of "racing" accidents.
Its even sadder when the deaths happen to innocent bystanders because of some idiot "thinks" they know what they are doing.
When are they going to learn that street racing aint drag racing???

In August here my neighbor lost his 18 yr old daughter along with 2 other teens in a wreck where racing was suspected. So far they have not got any info on the other car or who else was involved other then that there was some other skids by the wreck. Beer cans in the picture in the paper. I was talking to my neighbor the previous day about my step dad passing away...that day and then I see him the next day...he walks up to me, starts bawling and collapses on me. I never heard about the crash since I was consumed with our loss. I cannot imagine losing a child like he did.
Two days later a friend of ours lost their daughter...she was texting on the highway, lost control and that was it.

Thoughts and Prayers to all.

Scotty

lmills, yes that is the one I was referring to. I had two young men race pass me yesterday at a very high rate of speed on a windy parkway. I was waiting to come around a curve and see dust and fire......
I cannot claim to be innocent of this action but at least when we raced we did it on a straight road. Old cars were definitely not made for high speeds and curves....

yeh the funeral was yesterday. Wow, what a turn out. The streets were shut down and they pretty much gave him a full police escort with at least 40 cop cars(that we last counted) involved in it. It really hit home in the tight nit community that it happened in.

I try not to be too quick to judge the youth on accidents. I can honestly say that when I was a teen I was involved in a wreck that I should have never have lived through, let alone walk away from. Kids do not always have the experience us adults do when it comes down to stuff like this in life. Had they took a minute to think about what may happen as a result, I am sure they would have never put themselves in this situation.

Yesterday on FM 1960 In Houston, a triple fatal. Two kids and and a 73 year old innocient victim that was hit head on by high schools students speeding and possibly racing. Speeds estimated about 90 MPH. Such a waste of life.

Be safe out there.

They mentioned on the news last night that just this week alone, 8 teenagers had been killed in Virginia from accident's. That doesn't even included the officer's son from Maryland you all were talking about. Both of his parents spent there whole lives telling kids the dangers of reckless driving, and now they had to loose there son because of that very thing. The father did an amazingly well job of holding it together while talking about his son, I know that was hard.

That's becuase teens view their parents as being overly protective and annoying. It takes things like THIS to get them to listen. We were all teens once...think back .

This is what I hate most about my job.

The captain on my truck co. lost his 18yo daughter to an high speed mva. It was the 1st time he let here ride with this friend. (she was the passenger).

I don't know if you ever get used to it or not either. I know I became a bit 'hardened' to a lot of it, and that was one reason I got out of that line of work. In 1996 we had a guy burn to death in a car that was rear-ended on the highway. He was in it and concious... VERY concious. We couldn't get to him, not even close. Back seat was pushed into the front, pinning him against the steering wheel. I forget the make of the car, but there was a LOT of magnesium in it. And you know what mag does when introduced to water. Anyway, while we were doing what we could, I remember thinking, "I wonder what we're gonna do for lunch? The sub shop is on the way back, we could pick up pizza." Wish I had realized it was time to get out back THEN, instead of waiting as long as I did.

Little kids are the only thing that really gets to me, hence the reason for the fire safety career I have now. I guess in my mind I believe kids are completely innocent and shouldn't have to endure anything more than a hangnail.

Parents need to quit buying sports cars for their kids. Stick em in a Yugo or something that can't go above 60. Let em sweat it out till they turn 18, then they can get their own car and their own insurance. All I got to drive was early 80 Olds cars or my dads 79 Chevy truck, wasn't anything fancy.

There had been talk about car manufacturers putting an electronic system in the car that a parent could program top road speed and power. We can already do this in otr diesel trucks, now with the advent of drive by wire technology being routinely installed into cars all the manufactures would have to do is write some software and put a parental interface in. It would probably sell a lot of cars.
