1952 Ford 8N Steering
So I went over to a guys house today to check out his 8n. It seems his steering went out a couple days while bush hogging. Here is the problem and as soon as I get my truck back I am gonna tote it back to the shop.
You turn the steering wheel to the right and you can feel resistance and then you can turn the wheels to the right. As soon as you stop and go to the left the steering wheel and shaft start to rise out of the steering column until you reach a certain point and it stops. I'm guessing by the pictures I found at another site the gear on the steering shaft is hitting the top of the box. I read over at the other site about a nut that comes loose??
Just looking to see if anyone has messed with one. Someone who could give me a difficulty rating on rebuilding the steering gear. I've rebuilt CAT hydraulic pumps for 3(almost 6 years on all) years, CAT engines, transmissions, cylinders, differentials....you name it, I've probably rebuilt it(CAT's at least). So do I have the skill to rebuild this gear without a manual or are there some specs I would need to know about? Thanks for any info guys!!
