10 Gal. of oil in the bed of the ram

Well this oficiall made my night a fun one... I was bringing home a barrel, which was sealed in the bed of my truck... When I had 2 kids around the ages of 7-10 run out infront of me, I had no choice but to lock em up... Well the barrel came sliding forward and craked open..... Bottom line I have 10 gal of Rotella T that was in a N14 cummins for 12k miles in the bed of my truck... Got most of it out.... I was wondering if anybody knew of a degreaser that will not hurt the paint on the truck??? thankya!

I would give Simple Green a try .... should be fairly safe on the paint.

Did you run it thru a car wash yet ??

Simple Green or you could use a bottle of dishwashing soap like Dawn.
If you can get hot water it is best but get in the bed with the soap and a good sponge and start slopping the bed till it's clean.
Best not to park in your own driveway when you do this.
Dishwashing soap will take the oil out as well as the wax job and it will leave the bed squeaky clean and maybe with a scent of lemon.
Good Luck.

Whenever you haul a barrel strap it down against the front of the bed . I had a 2wd Ford and when winter came decided to cut a 55 gallon plastic drum in 1/2 and carry sand in it for traction . First time I hit the brakes hard ... BAMM ! Put a helluva dent in the front of the bed .

It amazes me how many people haul and dont strap their loads down.
Granted, I dont strap EVERYTHING, but if it can roll, tip or blow out, its got a strap or net on it. I have a rough milled rubber mat on top of my plastic bed liner so most things wont slide.

That's why i have the 2x4's cut to fit into the slots that are molded into my bed liner. Works pretty good when you cut them a little longer than needed, that way they fit nice and snug.
did you get most of the oil out with Speedy dry, or Kitty litter? that's a start and most of it will blow out goin to the car wash.

Amway LOC works well on oil spills, that what was used on the EXXON valdiz. Also works great to wash your hair if you got a lot of oil in it from working under the truck.

What you want is a good emulsifier...and if you ever want to have your bed sprayed it wont stick where there is oil in the pores....

Don't know what your laws are down there...Here you have 48 hours to report a spill of 10-25 gls...and 24 hours for any spill bigger....And it don't matter....if it can get into the soil it MUST be reported and recorded(in triplecit)

I spilled about 8 gallons of used oil in the back of my truck a couple years ago. I was only going 2 miles so I didnt bother to strap the two buckets I had down. Hit a large pothole while going around a sharp turn and both buckets got knocked over and the lids knocked off. I know have an oil bucket with a lid that seals tight and even if it does tip over wont leak out.

I ended up taking the plastic bedliner out and throwing it away because I couldnt get the oil off it. It took 2 trips to the car wash to get the majority of the oil off then washed and waxed the truck by hand (only time in the 3.5 years Ive owned the truck )

Dohhhhh
I hate it when that happens......
How could you not strap your load....any load down?
I bet you never do that again
A 2x4 fits between the tailgate and wheel well.
I think it's listed in the owners manual/instructions/directions.

Any degreaser will work...Oil Eater, 409, any cheap spray on.
And are you really worried about the paint...in the bed?
Its a truck ! and therefore deserves to be treated like one

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been driving truck hauling flatbed for years, so i know how to strap loads down... You would think 2 bunjee cords would hold 10 gal of oil, not in my case. BTW try not to buy the cheap bungees...... Snapped both of them in half...

I use a load lock across the bed and alsomake sure they wont slide side to side! I had some slide sideways and hit each other once. lucky it just popped the lid off and i probably trailed about a quart of oil behind the truck.

I have a 5 gallon bucket that I collect my used oil in from my oil changes. Last time I moved I had it in the bed, and it was 2 quarts shy of being full. Well, it fell over, lid popped open, and had 4½ gallons in the bed. Didn't take me long to find the trail on the road I left the next day. Anyway, what was left in the bed came out with a bristle brush (cheap plastic bedliner) and a lot of dish soap.
