Today is Sunday, June 13th.

On this day in 1777 - The Marquis de Lafayette arrived in the American colonies to help with their rebellion against the British. (Who?)

1789 - Ice cream was served to General George Washington by Mrs. Alexander Hamilton.

1825 - Walter Hunt patented the safety pin. Hunt then then sold the rights for $400.

1866 - The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed by the U.S. Congress. It was ratified on July 9, 1868. The amendment was designed to grant citizenship to and protect the civil liberties of recently freed slaves. It did this by prohibiting states from denying or abridging the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States, depriving any person of his life, liberty, or property without due process of law, or denying to any person within their jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

1898 - The Canadian Yukon Territory was organized.

1920 - The U.S. Post Office Department ruled that children may not be sent by parcel post.

1922 - Charlie Osborne started the longest attack on hiccups. He hiccuped over 435 million times before stopping. He died in 1991, 11 months before his hiccups ended.

1940 - Paris was evacuated before the German advance on the city.

1943 - German spies landed on Long Island, New York. They were soon captured.

1944 - Germany launched 10 of its new V1 rockets against Britain from a position near the Channel coast. Of the 10 rockets only 5 landed in Britain and only one managed to kill (6 people in London).

1951 - U.N. troops seized Pyongyang, North Korea.

1966 - The landmark "Miranda vs. Arizona" decision was issued by the U.S. Supreme Court. The decision ruled that criminal suspects had to be informed of their constitutional rights before being questioned by police.

1979 - Sioux Indians were awarded $105 million in compensation for the U.S. seizure in 1877 of their Black Hills in South Dakota.

1994 - A jury in Anchorage, Alaska, found Exxon Corp. and Captain Joseph Hazelwood to be reckless in the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

1997 - The same Denver jury that convicted Timothy McVeigh of the 1995 bombing of a federal building in Oklahama City recommended the death penalty for his crime.

Coffee, tea and ph00 is ready. Donuts are newer than usual. The milk in the fridge has lumps in it so let's use it up before it goes bad.

Morning all - - gorgeous day started in the south - - heading for a high of 90 today. The girls (two Sand Hill Cranes along with a baby) have all ready done their daily pilgramage to our back yard this morning - - they are sooo neat - - and sooo big. I probably should say mama and papa since the two big ones are probably not both "girls" - - they are big birds and will walk right up to me. Probably want breakfast. The little one will almost let me pet it.

OK, been up over an hour so its breaky time. Hmmmm - - oatmeal with bananas and honey sure sounds good. Ooopppp - - just made myself hungry - - see ya. Breaky and off to church.

Spent last night in the hospital with my brother, he's ok, but I'm beat. Bout to go back and see him.

 

Morning, looks like the filter fell over in the coffee maker. At least the coffee will be interesting this morning.

Morning Hat, get some rest.

 

No rest for the weary, I've gotta drive to Charleston again and see my buddy in the brig. Who knows what will happen after that?

mornin' off to church here pretty ,youth group tonight, i'v had a 24 pack of moxie on ice since firday night ,trying to get it cold for tonight there are a few people who have never had moxie , i think they'll like it

I was thinking last night [not always a good thing] and just wanted to say I hope all the woes of my fellow DTRonians get worked out and you all have a great week.
Today I am firing up the charcoal BBQ and will cook up some nice lean buffalo burgers, roast some corn on the cob and make a tasty salad for the family.

From all of us--thanks for the thoughts. Currently I have no real problems except for ones I have created myself and for a change, they are small.

Beautiful day here. Cant go clamming so I get to mow the weeds.

well ii finally got something accomplished got my 2 meter antenna up & mounted on the roof of the house > just checked it out seams to work pretty good !

now i have to build a tripod > 10 ft tall to put on the roof with a an tron 99 > 10 meter antenna on .
be glad when its all up and functioning

He was in boot camp here at PI... coming back from the Crucible, he was ok, but after they got back, he had some really bad stomach pains. The doc's think he has a blocked pancreas duct. They're talking about possibly doing surgery. He's probably not going to die, but it don't look good for him at the moment.

Just had nice lil swim, bout to put some chicken and sausage on the grill. Having an imaginary beer.

 

On the roof? Hope the weather is holding. I am sure lightening wouldnt hurt you but it might damage the equipment.

Dang, sounds painfull. We will keep our fingers crossed.

If I get the yard work done I get to have a real one.
