Scott, I thought this might make you feel better about your upcoming dental excursion:

and I can quiet easily picture you as Bill Murray:

and as a friend, i hope watching these eases some of the anxiety you may have about a visit to your dental professional.........Want a candy bar??

I had never seen that version with Bill Murray. Guess I will have to see the whole thing.

You guys sure have reminded me why I DON'T like the dentist. Guess part of that can stem from a couple instances when I was a kid and our dentist seemed like more like a mad scientist than a tooth fixer-upper. But, I guess since my insurance pays for 2 checkups and cleanings per year I oughtta go. Haven't been in like 25yrs and haven't had any REAL problems to speak of. However, my wisdom teeth do need some attention....they need extraction as they have a tendency to become quite painful from time to time.

Coffee and pHoO are both ready. Come and get it!!!!!!!

Worst part of the dentist is the bill. I don't have any insurance, so it's going to be put on the Mastercard Health Plan!

You know, since you're paying out of pocket, the cost is probably cheaper than what they would've billed the insurance for!!!!!!

The shoe thing is the dead truth!!!

Morning all - - cool but gorgeous down this way. Orchids had to come inside to go to bed last night. They whispered thank you on the way out the door this morning and one gave me a new flower for being sooooo sweet. ....

The price I got IS their 'cash' price. $1100 normally. Can't wait to see what the crown costs. What gets me is a root canal is nothing more than a deep filling, and a crown is just a bigger than normal filling. I should have been a dentist.

They're their own entity now again. Someone didn't like how Electrolux was running things, so they went their separate ways.

What's that got to do with anything?

Scott, as much as it will pain your pocket, look into what a bridge on that side would cost. It's usually cheaper to do the bridge as part of the crown. Wife just had one done that way. Sorry you're still hurting buddy.

Evening all.

In all seriousness, what is a bridge? Yes, I've heard of them, but I have NO idea what they really are. Does it depend on the tooth next to it to support it? Because there IS no tooth beside the one that's getting 'canalled'. That's why I'm doing the canal in the first place. I'd just normally have the thing yanked out, but it would leave me toothless on that side except for the very last tooth way back in the rear.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge (sometimes called a fixed partial denture) fuses 3 or more dental crowns together to replace missing teeth. Essentially, two crowns on the existing teeth act as a "bridge" where a pontic (false tooth) is held between them in the area of the missing tooth. Occasionally bridges will have several more teeth on them, but it depends on the health of the existing teeth and bone.

Bridges allow you to chew as you normally would before the tooth was missing. Placing a permanent bridge in the empty space prevents teeth from shifting which can occur when a tooth is no longer present. Bridges also offer a lower cost alternative to implants while providing the same aesthetic benefits.

Alternatives to fixed dental bridges include removable partial dentures or dental implants. However, dental implants can be expensive and are not always possible depending on one’s bone health. Removable partial dentures may be easier to clean around, but patients may prefer a fixed appliance like a bridge that stays in the mouth.

Yeah, I know... Google is my friend. Thanks so much!

I'm thinking if I could get the guy to implant or glue a magnet between the missing teeth, I could make a couple teeth out of steel and just snap them in there. A little rustoleum white and who would know?

Well, you do have experience with gluing steel. Wonder if you could barter welding or firewood or something. Put it up on Craigslist in the barter section. Couldn't hurt, I've seen it there before.
