Very basic, but I have to ask!!
Guys, I have an 05 2500 4WD with the 6sp manual tranny. I had to use the 4wd on some icy roads the other day, and ever since my 2wd hasn't felt the same. Something is turning that shouldn't be IMHO. I have a vibration and some extra noise when driving. I feel the vibs in the floor and the pedals.
I crawled under the truck this morn and the front drive shaft does not turn freely by hand with the truck in 2wd. Is that right?? Does it turn all the time, or only when 4wd is selected??
Sorry for the bonehead question, but had to start somewhere.

Yes your Drive shaft turns all the time unless you have lock out hubs. So it will not turn freely. It sounds like your unstressed u joints in the front shaft bound up when you had to actually put a load on them. Pull the front shaft out and drive it to see if the vibration cleared up. If so replace the u joints. Th front shaft is always turning as you drive, but it is not under load until 4x4 is engaged. If you don't use it regularly one of the sockets has probably dried up.
