Lightbulb Motel info,,,,,,

Here are a few of the motels that are relatively close by. In Hopewell, they are all in the same general area and approximately 25 miles / 35 minutes from Spring Grove/Claremont Fire Department grounds.

Hopewell Area Motels

And there are two in the Stony Creek area that are right off I-95, exit 33, which is 2 miles past exit 31 (Route 40 which runs straight to Spring Grove approximately 40 miles)

Stony Creek Area Motels

Then there are the ones located in the Chester area which is where some of the folks stayed before,,, I think. Most of these are located around I-95, exit 61A, on West Hundred Rd. (W. Hundred Rd is state Route 10). The motels in this area are approximately 30 miles / 40 minutes drive time up Rt.10, from Spring Grove/Claremont Fire Department grounds.

Chester Area Motels

Hope this helps,,,,
Dennis

I may come down but w/o a cummins and w/o my camper. If I take the camper I'd have to tow it with my diesel Jeep Liberty but the wife can't drive my Cherokee setup like it is. So I may come down with the Mopar Cherokee HAHA See you all down there.

Joel,

I won't be there until Saturday morning. A two week event that was supposed to happen 5 May got pushed back two weeks and now ends on the 2nd. I have a LOT of equipment there and need to get it back and it's all the way at the beach.

I still have the tickets if getting them Saturday morning will work. I can also bring the tent thingy and a couple of 8' tables if needed.

Yeah, that will be fine. I expect not much will happen Friday night anyway. Probably just a bunch of old diesel heads sitting around sipping Tang and iced tea.

Yeah, right.

Some info for access to the CVFD property

Lary has gratiously agreed to donate two Quadzilla boxes to help raise a few dollars for the CVFD. One is for an 03-04 and the other is for an 04.5-06 truck. In talking to Dennis (Rattlinram), we beleive the best way to get the most for these, and still give those interested a good price, is to have an auction for these two items. My wife will be running the raffle tent again and will have the two items there for inspection.
JohnP has also donated several handy items that will be available for raffle. I plan to have the same as the last time, tickets are a dollar for the general raffle items. I am going to round up some little wrench sets and stuff like that this weekend to donate also. If you have anything, no matter what, you don't need and care to donate for raffle, feel free to bring it along and let me or Dennis or my wife know. As Dennis stated earlier, ALL proceeds go to the CVFD, we do not keep any moneys associated with the event. We donated near $700 last year so lets see if we can do it again and make it worth their while.

The folks (other than our own great members) that make this event possible, the Claremont Volunteer Fire Department, are gratiously donating the use of their facility and services of that facility. For those of you that have not been to either of the first two events, this is a very clean facility and we must follow a few simple rules. I plan to meet one time with them tomorrow evening and make sure every thing is ready to go. They are looking forward to the event and we need to make sure they want to have us back again.

1) Safety is the first concern as always. David will have his own safety rules for access to the dyno area. These trucks have the capablilty of building up a lot of energy on the rollers that can be dangerous if someone is in the wrong place. Please obey all postings around the dyno. David is very picky about securing the trucks to the dyno and his methods even meet my strict nuclear rigging standards but you never know. As I remember, the front and rear areas of the dyno are strictly off limits during a run and this is a good practice to get in anyway since David will be driving many a vehicle on and off the dyno.

2) This is in fact a working fire station. All of the fire trucks will be parked to allow full egress of emergency vehicles from the north side of the building and we will have use of the south side. Please DO NOT park any vehicle in the way of the access doors, or block in any way doors on the north side of the building. Children are welcome but please do not allow them to climb on or around the rescue equipment, trucks, or any other emergency apparatus.

3) Dennis will have a trailer there for garbage and I plan on picking up a few trash cans to place at strategic locations. If you have access to a few old trash cans, bring them along. We can dump them Sunday before you leave if you like. Please help me keep the grounds and the building policed for stray materials. There are very clean and neat rest room facilities in the building. Please help me keep them that way.

4) The concrete pad on the south side of the building is really nice and can hold about three trucks at the same time for little tasks. If you plan to change oil or any fluids, please have a drop cloth to keep from staining the very clean concrete pad and bring containers for the waste oil please.

5) I will have one or two sets of ramps, an air compressor, and several assorted impact tools and socket sets. I will have a hydraulic jack or two, some stands, and some 4x4 cribbing for blocking trucks. Please DO NOT go under a vehicle that is not properly blocked and stable. Please check your vehicles and return any of the tools to the trailer before you pull out to leave.

6) There is still a burn ban in effect around the county if I remember right so no open fires are NOT permitted at this point. Grilles are fine so bring them along if you like.

7) Most of all above safety and a good time, lets be safe and have a good time. The last two events went very well I thought and I believe everyone had a good time (especially after dark when the wild animals came out if you know what I mean). I will not supply alcoholic beverages of any kind so bring your own if you like. I ask that you wait till the later hours to consume them or at least be inconspicuous. If you have consumed, please do not get behind the wheel, unless you plan to sleep there. I will have a cooler full of assorted soft drinks and water available.

8) I would ask that Dennis, Boatnik, JohnP, and a few others help me keep an eye on the place and the people for safety reasons. We are there to help you have a good time and be safe so please listen to the help.

Come on down and have a good time. My home phone is 757-866-8951 if you need further info or you can PM me or my e-mail is joelwilliams1@joimail.com. The hotels/motels in Chester are the best and where most people stayed the last time. They are all up route 10 about 40 minutes and it is a straight shot there and back from the fire house. I plan to be at the firehouse about 10:00 or so Friday morning so you can call on my cell Friday if you need help (804-731-4250).

See you soon.

Not sure if I'm going to make it. The wife's mini van went Tango Uniform Saturday. The alternator bracket broke of all things and I can't seem to find a replacement. And to top it off, the car is down in SC at the inlaws.

Anybody know where I can get an alternator bracket for a '98 Chevy Venture with a 3.4L SFI????

Goning to call around to the salvage yards today. Really don't want to go to the dealer, but that is an option.

Sorry to hear that Butch. I'm leaving for Smith Mountain Lake now or I'd be glad to help out. Hope everything works out.
Anyone else got any tickets suitable for raffle and a tent to bring along?

Alternator bracket on order (from the dealer - under $40.00 ), should be here tomorrow morning, then overnight it down to my FIL. He should be getting a new alternator in Thursday also. If everything goes right, he should have it put back together and bring it up Friday.

If the inlaws don't leave until Sunday, I may try to talk him in to comming up with me (he has a Ferd), show him what a real diesel can do.....

Wow, that long list of rules and not one single restriction on frying pans. I guess that means "attend at your own risk"
