Re:Calgary and area Owners

Well, the dyno day happened.

The power numbers were all over the place. They recalibrated the dyno twice, finally got it right (sort of) towards the middle of the afternoon.

The test was run from 32 MPH up to 70 MPH for a 20 second pull

At the start, the HP numbers seemed way low and the torque was up and down. I pulled a 221 HP and everyone there said it was to low,I did 265 HP on BD's dyno. Andy pulled a 266 HP which seemed low for his combo,he has done 290 HP, although he pulled to much heat and couldn't do a full pull. After about a dozen trucks or so, they recalibrated the dyno and started again.

Then the gong show started. Mr Red Deer makes his pull, 295 HP, but couldn't keep the heat out so they bailed the run. So then they changed the test parameters to 20 MPH to 40 MPH and do a 10 second pull, he pulls 325 HP and just over a 1000 ft/lbs. Then some farmer kid shows up, sucking thru a stock airbox, pulls 336 HP on the original test parameters. Both of these trucks are running 33 inch tires. Then they decide to change to a 235 tire on the rear, load the boxes with weight and see what happens. Now the test parameters changed constantly, but farmer kid ended up pulling 345 HP and Red Deer boy did 339 HP. There were a lot of people choked about the test parameters changing because everyone else ran the original parameters. We had numbers ranging from 63 HP up to 345 HP.

BD-Power didn't have their drag truck there. The lease was up on it and they stripped it and returned it. They did have the "shop" truck there though. After 3 attempts to get it to hook on the rollers, all over 350 HP with the tires spinning, they piled 23 guys into the box, and on the 4th attempt, pulled 470 HP still spinning the tires. Lot of open mouths when the numbers came up on the screen!! Red Deer boy wasn't smiling anymore!

All in all, it was a good turn out. There were a few problems yeah, but the owners of the stock trucks got there eyes opened as to what these trucks can do with simple mods.

I talked to Kevin, the owner of Performance Assist, today and he is going to do things a lot different the next time. He is also going to look into a new dyno. Things may be different next time!!

It might not be the most precise report on what went on, but it gives you some of the hilights anyways. I'm sure Andy and Pat will chime in with their comments and make this report a little more complete.

I think I'm going to have to call Rod!! Even if it's wrong, 221 HP is embarrassing!! Need more power!!!

Yeah, 221 is just flat out wrong for an EZ equipped truck. 260 is about right.

Personally, I don't think its the dyno at PAAL thats having troubles. Has anyone hopped over to that new shop with the Mustang dyno? Just curious as to what he's pulling for numbers.

Rod

Re:Calgary and area Owners

Homestead you have more than that, without a doubt. Most guys with the EZ were in the 250- 260 range. Andy has more than that too, he pulled more than 260 before he changed his plate and turbo.. :P

I was over at the new shop Dynomotive with Homestead and PSDKLONE and he didn't have any trouble with his dyno numbers.. Ol Tim, much to his shegrin was only pounding out 290 RWHP, but it matched the G-Tech Pro precisely.

The guy running the dyno is not a greener either as he drags a 500 HP twinturbo'd stang.. Nice little shop in the S.E. but there isn't alot of room for trucks to park for the event.

Waterous has their new roll set in the new building and would be a good venue for the high HP guys.. That is the dyno to use without any wheelspin problems, the superflow. Even Jannetty is getting one... It can handle alot bigger rigs than we've got.. With the trucks that were over 400 HP Brad (Waterous) was only at 50% of the load available.

Glad to hear nothing much changed....LOL

J-eh
Re:Calgary and area Owners

Andy (Eat Beef) and I were talking about having a get together at the new dyno shop (http://www.dynomotive.ca/)
He wants $400 for the day and doesn't care how many runs we make. We were talking about late summer or so to give everyone a date to shoot for with lot's of lead time. What does everyone think?

Back to the dyno day, I know my numbers were way off and a lot of people knew it also. They had their problems!! I was hoping maybe Tim would have showed up and then it would have given us a real good idea just how off PAAL's dyno was.

I still need more power though ;D

Re:Calgary and area Owners

Jeff summed everything up pretty well as far as I was there. I left at 11 am but what we witnessed was dissappointing. There wasn't just one inconsistency but many, so no one really new what was wrong but the numbers were definitely OFF! It would be nice to get on a dyno and come off it feeling that you can trust the numbers it gave you. I wonder when this will happen? Maybe next time.
Andy

Late summer would be good for me...I am sure I can make it then.

Rod should have his lil 03 tweaked up over 500 HP by then.
My paltry Ram migh be over 300 HP then.

Red Deer Boy...LOL
still laffin here.

Jason, sorry I never hooked up...had a marathon trip.

Are there new owners at PaaL?

Re:Calgary and area Owners

Ya, Scott, new owners at PAAL. Mark flew the coup and Kevin stepped up to run the place. I could be mistaken but I think he's got an interest in it. It seems to be a better outfit, now if they could just do something about the dyno.
See you at the next one.
Andy

Re:Calgary and area Owners

I stopped into PAAL today. As Andy said, Kevin owns the place now. Some big changes are going to be taking place. They are buying a new shop truck and going to tweak the nuts out of it as well as really push the performance end of things.

I talked to him about the dyno. When BD-Power was here the 2 days before the event, they were testing a few different combinations on the dyno. The whole time, the truck had a blown tranny. No 1st or 3rd gear. They were playing with the dyno parameters while playing with the truck. The truck laid down 470 hp in Overdrive!! Anyways, the dyno got confused by itself and puked yesterday. They spent a major portion of last night and this morning getting it up and running and supposedly it was good to go.
There will be another event this summer sometime and he said things will be very different, less confusing and have more "tech" stuff as well as having some true numbers come up on the dyno.

Have to wait and see I guess.
