Who's going to the Tipton Couny BBQ Festival in Oct?

Who's going to the Tipton Couny BBQ Festival in Oct?
I haven't found a lot of details other than these 2 links.

Events for this festival include Memphis in May sanctioned bar-b-que cooking contest, a demolition derby, arts and crafts exhibits, a truck pull, live bands and many other fun activities

Tipton County Bar-B-Cue Festival & Heritage Festival

Event Dates
Oct 12, 2006 - Oct 14, 2006
Quote:

Cobb Parr Park - Includes barbecue cookoff, demolition derby, truck pull, music and more. The Heritage Festival will be held Oct. 14 with tours of the courthouse and historic homes.

Hmmm. I'd like to go, BUT: I'll be just-got-back (Oct 11) from AIRSHO 2006 at Midland, TX. My wife might object; or she MIGHT even want to go with me.

Prospector, I'd like to go but I won't be in town. If you want links about the pull. www.hillsled.com/ is the sled that will be there but they haven't updated there schedule to reflect it. www.kentenpullers.com is the pulling association putting on the event. I've seen them several times and they have good sleds and always put on a good show.

I just checked and they have the truck classes listed for that pull and that the tractor classes are pending. I know they had several tractor classes for the original pull in Covington that was rained out so they should have some this time as well.

You also know what they say about people who post three consecutive times in the same thread don't you.

Hey Streetsmoker,

I was thinking on my way into work this morning, maybe in order to be able to run 16's on the back so you can get some slicks, you can retro-fit some rear brakes of a 2nd gen, the 01.5. Then you would be able to run 16" wheels back there. I dunno if it will all bolt up or not, might need to do some cutting, but you never know till you try.

those are cool, but John wants to run slicks on the rear of his truck to try and get some traction on the strip. His problem is, most street slicks, and racing slick are 15" or 16". The 3rd gens are not able to run anything smaller than 17" and also can not run some 17" wheels because of clearance issues with the brake caliper setup. If he can find a way to mount 16" wheels on his truck, he can then run some slicks.

I was thinking of the Hummer and Power Wagon 24 series. The ad states they will custom build a wheel for you. Would probably be cheaper in the long run. Find a slick that fits in the wheel well and build the rim to match, if you can't buy off the shelf.

but the problem still remains that he needs at max a 16" wheel so he can get slicks, but 16" wheels will not clear the stock rear brakes. So something has to be done on the brakes first.

Man there's a blast from the not to distant past!!!!! Hey Smokey, you know we got a dyno day this weekend rite? Good to see some folks still around lurking.

Hey Happy, I'm looking into many different options rite now. Including some high offset 15in. rims. I think an easier fit would be the rear brakes from a Chevy with the same AAM 11.5 rear. I talked with the DHRA pres who said that a few slick tire builders are looking to tap into our market with some correct size slicks.

As of rite now, I'm going with some Nitto 404's in a 305/60R17 on 17x9 wheels. Gota be a heck of a load better for grip than what I have now

Hey Streetsmoker I found out a couple nights ago that I might be able to take you on the interstate. Me and 3rd gen were playing and I ran it on up past the 120 mark. I thought it was suppose to cut out at 110, who knows.
It was shaking a little though. Might have been the tires since they are about ready to be put out to pasture.

Smokeys Back!!!

Yea, I hear all you guys about that top end issue. That night coming back from Decatur AL tim wasnt able to pull as hard as me, but once I hit the 103mph mark, he was gone. He got far enough ahead that I lost him for a few miles!!! And I have to give the ole dodge some credit, it pulls pretty darn good to. I wouldnt try him with out a little something extra with a stock 3rd gen!!

I got my new lift pump installed & relocated with the Vulcan big-line kit.
It seems smoother on the bottom end, but still feels weak. More of a difference than I would expect just from going from 245 to 265 tire size.

I just might have to splurge for a dyno run to see if I've really lost power, or just feels like it. It put down 230 hp at my last Colorado emissions test, Sep 2002. Oh yeah, it was 186 the week before, when it was "stock". I installed the 275 injectors over the weekend and went back for a "re-test". It ain't a hot-rod truck, but it ain't bad either.
