Ok guys, after the first of the year I am going to have to replace my batteries. The last few times I went to start the truck it has been cranking slower and slower. Since my truck sits 90% of the time I am going to have to get some good batteries. What do you all recomend. Cost does not really concern me as long as they last for 5+ years, unlike the stockers that are not even three years old.

AGM - NAPA makes a good one that is less than an Optima

Lead Acid style: Interstate

I have neither though, I went for inexpensive and convenient, like a few others here in the chapter, Autozone Gold tops...

I'm looking at possibly getting a set of Odyssey batteries, I just need to find a price on them and make up my mind. If not I probibally will go with a set of Optima. I am after 1100+ CCA and a long life, since I do not plug the truck in and it sits most of the time.

**EDIT** I found a set, they are around $300 each for the Odyssey, maybe I will look at a set of Optima. Anyone know someone in the battery business?

when it sits like that you just need to pull that fuse in the tipm module up in its holder and it won't kill the batterys

Make sure your battery terminals are clean. I had the same issue earlier this year - I just had some cruddy terminals.

Do not run Optimas....

They do not like to sit for long periods and not be run.

I used to have them in my wheeling truck, but it would sit for a couple of months and the red top Optima would go flat... Now it would charge once it was jumped and ran and started fine if you start it every few days, but on long periods of inactivity, it would go dead....

Just a warning.....

Talking Travis

Just put good batteries in it and if you are gonna let it sit, just put a trickle charger on it. They are cheap enough. "Not a sermon just a thought"..

what size tires?
My dad's cherokee just died (engine through a rod) and he doesnt want to bother putting it back on the road as a daily driver with 300k mi on it so now I have a new project.
First thing he said is now we have an excuse to put a diesel in it.

32x11.50x15's

what year cherokee?

I have a decent 96 cherokee with a good 4.0 in it (long black has about 60k miles on it), good tranny and t-case etc. but something is up with the ECU/sensors and it sometiems wont run. it has a 4" lift on it. im not actively trying to sell it but if you or your dad is interested in it for parts let me know.

They look good on it, were they from the 96?
It's a '98, I have a 3" lift for it but I think I want to go bigger.
I'm really thinking about dropping a 4bt in it.

travis i threw 2 new walmart batteries in my truck this summer, ran it everyday for a couple months. now mine sits for 2 weeks at a time before i start it. it sat the whole week when we were down in the teens to 0.. turned the key, let the glow plugs warm up a bit and she fired right up. i think as i let it sit longer im just going to disconnect the batteries or pull the fuse like recommended. but so far im impressed that it can sit for a couple weeks in these colder temps and fire right up. was weighing the option of optima, but i found they are alittle overpriced for what you are getting.

oh yea, zj looks good with those 32s bro...

No Need for SYE on a ZJ.
