Draw Straw?

Put an Airdog 150 on my truck and when me and boots installed it the sending unit for the guage went bad. I redropped the tank and put in a new sending unit. Drove it and once it dropped under a half tank it started to develop a little dead spot in the tank where the truck would have no power. As it got lower when u accelerate hard enough the fuel press. drops to 4PSI but once you let off or stay at a regular speed it shoots right back up to 18PSI. Any Ideas???

PS: has draw straw and big line kit.

Thnx guys

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner. A short draw straw is the only thing that will cause the symptoms that you are describing. I bet that it is a metal draw straw also, so just go to Home Depot and get some black pipe the same size as the draw straw and replace it. When you drop the tank you should set it on blocks where the straps hold it so that it droops just like when it is installed and then cut it at about a 75* angle and have one side toughing the tank. Just my .02.

Wow I think it was cut waayyy too short if its got a dead spot at a 1/2 tank. When travis installed mine I believe he took off maybe a 1/2" or so and angled the tip like he said. I would never see a sluctuation in my fuel pressure unless I went below an 1/8th tank..

its a plastic draw straw the one that came with the airdog do u think the metal pipe will still work. And i could have easily cut it to short, 1.) first time ever installing one 2.) the directions said it should b at a minimum of a 1/4 inch away from the bottom of tank and 3.) i didnt have the tank on blocks. I wish you guys woulda wrote the manual prolly wouldnt had any problems.

when you lifted the tank back up did you have a jack in the center of the tank pushing up that could have put pressure ont he draw straw...you have the plastic tube, if you put pressure on it you could have cracked it, if you are sucking air at half tank its most likely cracked up higher in the tube and not just cut too short. either way you need to put another one in.

without a lift its much easier to have 2 buddies help you lift the bed off...trust me i have done it 3 times now.

We lifted with 2 jacks. Near the straps.

You can replace the straw with either a metal or plastic, it does not matter. Just make sure that it has the proper threads on the end. Mine is actually pushing down on the bottom of the tank a little bit, I can go to less than 1/8 tank before any flucuation of fuel pressure.

OK i went to the gas station and i filled up just as a quick solve for my problem until i get time to fix it. When we pullied in it read a half tank. So i started filling it up and it took 28 gallons of fuel. thats a little bit more than a half a tank. right? i think my guage is still wrong and i think the fluctuation doesnt start until you dip under a 1/4 tank. draw straw is still probably a little to short but i can live with that. Does anyone know how to calibrate these fuel guages?
