Cool LED gauge lights

Got a little more work accomplished this weekend. At first I tried out the LEDs behind the gauges in order to see just how bright they would be.

Not too bad but I wanted to tame them a little bit without dimming the rest of my lights. So I opened up the cluster again. Here's the direction I took. Now that everything was exposed, I painted all of the needles.

Continued...

Here's how it turned out after paint.

I also replaced the light behind the a/c controls as well as the map light.

This is what I used to paint the needles with. Of course, it's nail polish and I bought it at the Walgreen's down the street. That was quite funny .

Is your speedo working ok? When I did mine, I used "heavy" paint like that and now the needle is too heavy. It reads low on the low side of the gauge and fast on the right side...Mark

At the moment, the needle is stuck to the "zero post" . I'm going out right now to free it. I'll let you know what I find.

Mark, after knocking the needle lose from it's rest place, my speedometer is reading dead accurate to my GPS.

I also bought 1157s to replace the front parking/turn signal lights.

One thing I ran into when installing them is, upon turning my running lights on, I get a "bulb out" indication. The light still functions normally as a parking/turn signal/hazard. Supposedly having an electronic flasher should cure that but I have one .

That's great! I should have thinned out the paint a little. It is such a delicate pointer that I am spooked to try and take it off. ...Mark

A little bit. It all ran me about $90 including the shipping.

Looks great Jimbo...But I'm a little confused on how you "tamed" them down a little? Your first pic they reall seem to glare off the cluster, but after, the light seems just right.
