Welcome brother.....
I have a first genner, so what I've found out in my truck is that the tire used, how it's inflated, and it's "rolling resistance" make the most difference in my truck and how my fuel economy is altered.
I have summer tires in which I get 18-19 mpg, pretty much all the time. Low rolling resistance, but simply suck in cold weather.
Winter time I switch to my "mudders" for plowing snow and just plain looking cool. They're wider, and have large lugs. My fuel economy drops to 14-15.5 mpg average and I pretty much drive the same way all year long. I will get better fuel mileage when I put a more efficient torque converter in the trans, and change out my turbo to a 16 cm unit, but that's next year.... or whenever I really get around to it.
Your truck is computer controlled, but I hear that Delete kits are the way to make them produce real fuel economy. I'd switch to synthetic oil as a start, and upgrade the exhaust from a stocker to a 4" unit. Making it breathe better will help your ride run better.
Good luck with the new ride.
