New from northern co

Hey guys just wanted to introduce myself. Picked up a 2005 2500 with the 5.9. Not new to diesels just new to cummins. My backround comes from old ford IDI diesels so this is a whole new ball game. Hoping to learn alot and figure out what is squeaking on the front driver side wheel right now.

Welcome!
Sharp lookin truck! I had a 98.5 dually in that color.
You'll learn TONS here.
Somewhere floating around is an electronic version of the Dodge Service manual. Download it, it's a life saver if the few instances you need it. All 1800+ pages of it.

What are your plans for the truck?

P.S. I hope your staying dry up in your neck of the woods with all the flooding.

Im dry but many people are not being cut off from work right now I have been volunteering to help out.

But for plans to the trick th PO did an AFE intake. I will end up doing an exhaust and some sort of tuner. The trucks main use is going to be hauling hay and a three horse slant trailer. Just want it to be a reliable tow rig for now.

Good to hear your dry. I work for a restoration company and have put in an unimaginable amount of hours in since last Thursday. A lot of folks are not okay.

You'll find that your truck is as reliable as you can get! I think I remember hearing the inter cooler in the 05's are plastic, or something like that. That's the only negative thing I've herd about the 05's.
as far as a programmer goes, Smarty is HIGHLY reccomended. There are tons of options out there covering programmers, but smarty is on the top of the list!

If your going to use it for towing, and using a programmer, get yourself mechanical Boost, EGT and fuel pressure gauges.
After that, you can stop with the mods and you'll be extremely happy with the truck you have.
I say mechanical gauges, because that's my preference. Edge, along with a few others have gauges in their programmers, but I have a hard time trusting them. Some run through the trucks computer, which at times, can't be trusted itself.
The oil and voltage gauges on your truck are merely fancy lights. They only show what the truck THINKS the peraminters should be. Not good enough for me.

Browse the site and do some searches. You'll find that everything your thinking of doing to your rig has already been done by many, and they will point you in the right direction.
I've been here for years, and don't have many posts. That's because I can search and find my answers without ever having to ask.
