New guy from VA and to Cummins
Hello everyone,
I recently bought a new to me 2004 SLT quad cab, lwb, 4x4, auto trans, 410 gearing, with only 38,000 on it. I think it has what everyone is calling an 04.5 engine, not really sure how to tell? I got a great deal from a friend who owned two of these trucks and never really used this one. Worked out good for me.
I am not looking to build a HP or torque monster but I am starting to think about some mods. I have never been able to leave anything stock, its a disease!
I trying to learn a little more about these trucks and possible mods before I dump cash in the wrong areas. When I purchased the truck it was bone stock and the only mod that had ever been done was the cheaper Edge tuner. The original owner took the edge off when he had some issues with the truck and needed warranty work. He never put the tuner back on but he did give it to me. I tried to install it but the truck wouldn't start with it connected. I called Edge and found out the programer had failed and they offered me a trade out at a discount price. I haven't taken them up on their offer yet.
I didn't want to put a product back on the truck that would hurt it. Not saying the Edge product would but I don't know anything about them since this is all new to me.
To this point I have a K&N drop in replacement filter, and I just had to replace the stock exhaust (stock one developed too many holes). On short notice I had the exhaust shop get what they could the next day and that ended up being a Flo-Pro stainless turbo back 4" system. I kinda wish it would have been a 5" but the truck was broke down (exhaust feel off) and the 5" would have taken a few extra days to get. It is what it is. for now and I guess the 4" Flo Pro is better than the stock system. I ordered an FTE resonator to help get rid of the awful drone. It will be installed tomorrow. Bone stock other than these few things or I should say a clean canvas!
