New to DTR from Florida
New to DTR from Florida
I'm new here and found the site quite by accident while Google searching pics of the Dodge Mega-Cab.
Started lurking around, found some interesting threads, and decided to sign up.
Just found myself responding to a thread and realized, hey moron!
You haven't even introduced yourself yet!
So by way of introduction, I'm from the West Central Florida area, retired LEO and former Coastie.
I've been around off roading and 4x4's most of my life, mostly mud and dirt. Never done any "rock crawling" and probably never will. Florida's just not that well known for it's rocky, mountanous terrain.
I presently own an '89 Toyota (ok-everybody say boooooooo! and get it out of your system) FJ62 Landcruiser similar to the one attached here.
All of my previous 4-wheeler's have been Toyota products. A mid 70's FJ40 (wish I still had that one), an 83 LWB, standard cab pick up, and an 85 SR5 4-Runner (last of the straight axle).
All have been lifted, larger tires, yada yada...and all very utilitarian. No dedicated mall crawlers.
I've also owned a variety of Muscle Cars in my almost 55 years on this planet, from 69 Camaro's, 63 Impala SS's, and a 71 SuperBee, to Corvettes and an LS powered Z28, just to name a few.
Now, after much searching, review and evaluation, my newest affliction is for a Dodge Mega-Cab diesel 4x4
As I stated in the beginning, I'm retired, but I'm not dead and I'm not inactive.
I presently own several businesses (or more correctly, they own me), to include an investigative and court services agency, a tactical training group, and a Marine Training and Consulting firm which I've partnered with two (2) others, one also a former LEO and Viet Nam area Coastie, and the other a Fed (hey, don't blame me if he chose poorly
).
I also do some Gov't contracting as a small boat instructor, and in my free time, I volunteer as an airboat pilot and the marine operations coordinator for a deployable, fully self contained, Non-Profit, marine based Search & Rescue team.
Other than that, I'm just "papa" to my 5 year old grand daughter who has lived with us since birth.
Now the obligatory pics (sorry-no diesel....yet!):
(Left to right, top to bottom)
Top left-1989 FJ62 (very similar to my present ride-just better paint. Don't have recent pics of mine in my computer.)
Top center- Mid 70's FJ40 (identical to my former FJ40 minus the bling rims-Owned it so many years ago that I never had any digital photos)
Top Center- One of the older boats I play with on the team
. the newer ones are larger, faster and much nicer.
Bottom left- Some of the crazy chit we do with these boats (kids, don't try this at home
)
Bottom right- A "normal" operational environment for the teams.
Thanks for letting me hang out here.
I look forward to contributing and learning from the rest of you. Please excuse any stupid questions

Welcome, fellow Floridian! I'm from Okeechobee, sure do miss it.
Great looking Yota's. No haters here, just some good ribbing.
You'll be super impressed with the Cummins... good luck with your search!

Ah yes, Okeechobee, I know it well.
As a native Floridian, I have a lot of family there.
I'll be back down there near the end of the month on some business (looking at another airboat for the team).
I don't mind the ribbing.
As you can see, I
myself every chance I get.I always felt that if you can't take some ribbing and laugh at yourself a little in life, then you've got a problem that can't be fixed without ammo

And thanks for the compliments.
I love my "yotas!"
I'll try to get some pics of my actual FJ62 up after the repaint.
Other than that, and the addition of an ARB bar on the front, it looks pretty much the same as the one pictured.
Dang thing will go anywhere, just not fast or efficiently

I started to sell or part it out, but decided I've kicked my **** so many times over letting the wife talk me into selling the FJ40 23 years ago, that I'm not doing it again!
Maybe i'll put a diesel in it?
But unless finances dictate otherwise, it'll be here when my grand daughter is old enough to drive.
I'll teach her to drive it and give it to her as a first vehicle. She loves the thing. It's "papa's big red truck" to her.
Wait till she see's a lifted and properly "attired" MEGA CAB

Wish still wish I had the 40.
One day, after I lay title to a mega cab (and get the wife her NBS Suburban she wants, I'll get another one.
Looking forward to hanging around here.
Not sure which way I'll go with it later.
For now, I need to focus on the search.
I'll piddle with this thing until it's done.
It makes a great woods, beach, forest truck for Florida.
It's large enough to be "relatively" comfortable, small enough to still get in and our of some tight stuff, and unique enough to have the
factor on the beach
Pretty much a good local driver. Don't want to take her cross country though.
Would rather do that one in the Dodge.
