Congrats on getting back on the road. 8)

Now for the $64,000 question.

What was the final determination on the cause of the damage?

Inquiring minds want to know.......

Re:A word of thanks to every one

shovelhead,
to ans. thy question. 4 of the high quailty plastic oil cooler jets (piston squirters) were found in the bottom of the oil pan. When these things go awol it leaves a very big hole at each main bng. for the oil to escape out of. Rather then going into the main bng, it just went out the hole where the jet used to be... about a 1/4 inch hole...therefore no preasure to the main bng.
So I made some steel ones, I do not think these will get soft and jump out!!! You can check my trail there is pictures there..(here some where)
Mexstan, You bet I am happy but with all the new and diff. parts i do not think that its a cummins anymore ...well they would not own it for warrentee so I do not think I'm oweing them thir name

Congrats on getting the truck running. How's it running? Just remember to break it in nice and easy and you should have 300K miles of trouble free service.

Re:A word of thanks to every one

its running ok at least there is no thump in it anymore and the coated pistons makes it a bit less noisy.
break in is ones owens religion ..im sure thats a subject debated elsewhere ,it would be just m.o.
after break in a fual box will be added to take advantage of the larger inj. and #12 turbo thingy..soo time will tell
thanx

Congrats Thumper!!! ;D ;D ;D
I'll bet you're a happy camper now!
So do you feel like telling about the total cost, less your labor time?
I just gotta get my cracked block fixed now. Waiting on parts. :-X

Re:A word of thanks to every one

Cris,
sorry to hear that your still dealing with the crack block, hope you are covered.!!!!
As far as cost it came to about 6000.00 not counting my labor. There is a couple of things there that should not have been there. a head so cracked it there is no core 1700.00
eng. balance 400.00
piston coatings 250.00
steel piston squirters 90.00
So the bare min for a complete O.H. I would say about 4000.00 bucks if the linebore and whole 9 yards is to be done.
Personally the eng. ballance is well worth the extra cash. The thery is 3 grams is at least equal to 70 lbs of out of ballance in a typical eng. depending at what rpm and where ect. Hope this ans. your question ,. and hope it never happens to anyone else .

Congrad's thumper! Glad to hear she's runnin fine. I rebuilt a cummins ISB out of a dump truck at work this past summer and was shocked! at the plastic piston squirters! I could not belive they would put plastic like that for the application! They were a bugger to get back in!

Re:A word of thanks to every one

yes sir,, thats why we went to steel ones, the plastic ones leave a question mark in the mind if they broke in the install .(which would be a bad thing and we would be right back where we were). No oil p to the mains. EECCHHHH
