Won't start in Laramie WY
Thanks for the input guy's...! I went to the dodge place early this morning and decided REAL QUICK I didn't want them working on my truck if I could possibly avoid it. Stopped at warrens on 3rd st and he seemed pretty knowledgeable, so he towed it in to his shop and I sure hope he can find the problem and get it fixed. I will let you know the outcome...when I know it.
Thanks again for all your advice.

Well...I'm running again. The guy at the local shop seemed to have done a good job...but I PAID for it. He got it in/out today and got me back on the road....$380 for electronic fuel pump, $186 labor.
He also collected another $125 from good sam's for tow bill. If I can offer any advice it would be, DON'T BREAK DOWN IN LARAMIE WY....!!!! Thanks for all of your advice and help. I think I still got off better than at the dealership.
Hope to see ya down the road...!

Where I have worked, that would be below cost on the lift pump, and 2 hours of labor. Most shops can't even have it diagnosed, let alone repaired in 2 hours! And all in the same day, no appt., off the road, I can keep going. He could have really taken advantage of you and didn't. Not in my opinion at least.
I forgot to add that I have changed out 2 lift pumps for a retired friend in the last 4 years and charge him $250 including the pump. So you did real good.
Hey Chuck, if you get a chance stop by and see the dinosaur tour at the college(my work) in Rock Springs Exit 103. We get alot of people stopping just to see the T-Rex.

A little DTR advice, Traveller767. As soon as you can, get a Vulcan or Ginos lift pump relocate kit. It puts the lift pump on the frame next to the tank where it is pushing fuel, not sucking fuel all that distance from the hot engine. It will include oversized fittings and lines to provide your VP-44 a healthy dose of go-go juice. And also install a fuel pressure gauge or at the very least a low fuel pressure light. It will give you a heads up if and when the fuel pump is ready to buy the farm.

Why do you not have a fuel pressure guage? You got lucky....you could have killed the VP-44 and it would have been big bucks. Hopefully you didnt do much damage to your injector pump. Please do yourself a favor and get a fp guage so you can monitor the health of your lift pump.
I agree with Dr. Evil. The thing is many people are not aware of how critical the lift pump is to these vehicles and the only way to know they are going south is with a gauge. Glad you got it running. Get a gauge, move the pump to the frame rail, get an extra pump to carry with you.
Think you were treated very fairly for price, as above the price of pump was less than dealer would have been and labor sounded fair at 2 hours. When my 97 gasser broke down on the road, fuel pump failure, got towed to only place that would work on it late friday night. In tank pump $465 and $250 labor to remove the box to replace and I didn't feel bent over because of it. Just stranced till sat eve when he got the pump in and installed as no one around had one and he had to buy from a Dodge dealer, he showed me invoice and didn't up charge it at all, just Dodge price.
