Where is BDC on timing cover?!

Decided to do the valves tonight all has gone well on TDC adjustment until its time to rotate the crank to BDC the intrustions on the site say its on the timing cover but if it is I don't see it. I'm confused or just down right ignorant, and have an hour left to finish. What am I missing?

it says to rotate the crank 360 degrees. Which (if your going by the mark on the vp gear) is straight down

Yeah I read that and assumed that that is the case but without a mark to go by on the case that leaves a lot of room for error. You know a 1/8" one way or the other translates to several thousands up top at the valves or am I trying to be to precise?

I'd say just eyeball it. Most people can get vertical to within a degree or two. All valves that you're adjusting should be on the base circle of the cam, so there there should be no real change if you're out a degree.

I do the #1 cylinder position with a mirror and then I mark the harmonic balancer and the timing case with a drop of oil from the head (a small smear will be enough) and turn over the engine. This will get you there precisely enough, since you won't get the mark to true vertical (less than 2degrees off) on number one.

Thanks for the help guys. I just used the slot in the cover where the breather screws into the timing cover as a reference in the 6 o'clock position. to find BDC. All valves were within tolerance but all different within 5-6 thousands. With the exception of #5 intake was way to tight. Runs better than ever and a little less chatter.
