what is the whining

i was coming home from towing a car from a 200 mile trip. shortly before coming into town, i started hearing i loud whining/whistling. it was dark, so i couldnt look around to check what was going on. did i blow a boot, crack a manifold, blow a turbo, what do i need to check. any ideas what it could be. im not getting the boost like i should be. i have never really gotten the boost i think i should (only around 40.)

Sounds like you might have blown a boot off, or have a loose boot clamp..at least that's the first things I would check out.

Check the exhaust manifold bolts, make sure they havn't loosened up on you causing exhaust leak. The rear bolts have a habit of coming loose, also look for any soot on head near exhaust, tell tale sign your bolts are loose or gastket has blown out.

did a little bit of checking. the whine is coming from around the turbos. lots of soot. looks like v clamp off top turbo is giving way. don't know if thats the only cause. too cold outside to stay out long.
