What happened

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

crusing @ 70 MPH suddenly I hear/feel a bump-bump
from the transmission/driveline. then RPM's are soaring and I have NO connection of engine to drive train.... Coast to a stop and no way I am going anywhere. tried all gears, two and four wheel drive. nothing. It's at the dealership now and they are looking/tearing down the trani. Thank God for my extended waranty! THis is a heavy duty, tow package, 2500 ram 4X4 w/ a history of ONE tow of a 28 foot travel trailer for 80 miles and tha's IT! no heavey hauling. very little hotrodding. why would the trany fail @ 45K miles??

sounds strange like main shaft or output snapped i assume, i hope your ext warranty doesnt balk about you mods and equipment installed on you truck. i have seen alot that have included in the fine print about stuff like that, i.e. perf mods, towing equipement, snow plow or other implements. commercial veh's etc... and i have seen denied claims because of this. i hope your good to go though good luck for ya!

My 99 disintegrated the clutch disc the same way. One crunch and lurch and no drive. $1400 later and $175 in car rental and I was on the way.

Replaced complete clutch, release bearing, surfaced flywheel, replaced pilot bearing, new input shaft and bearing, and seals in the transmission. NV4500
Pictures to come later.

Dealer is installin new transmission. THey say that "some internal part" bearing carrier? failed and grenaded the entire transmission. they stopped tearing it down because the tech said it was a total loss! Thank God for my extended warranty!

Actually here is the description from the tech who opened it up:

"Upon opening transmission, Oil was burnt, lots of metal in pan, Torque converter was seized inside and stuck with front pump and input shaft. Unable to remove torque converter from front pump and input shaft. unable to inspect internals. Removed and replaced entire transmission."
