VP44 isolation

Hello all. I put another thread in 24V drivetrain with no responses. $1300+ for a new IP isn't fun for me, but I need something to be done now. Short story.

LP and filter replaced yesterday, pressure good now.
Bled main line into vp
cracked #1 no drip at all ever
Truck died on the road.
display says P1693, nothing else.
Power has been lacking the last week or so, gave me a hard start 10 minutes before it died. Idle is a bit funny and "flat sounding" after starting truck when warm. Truck has also been running a little warm which would make sense with lack of fuel. It's not starting.

Any other tests to prove or disprove the IP failure?

Again, gotta do something fast and if this is the vp will have to put it the shop as I probably won't have the time to replace this thing. Thanks for the help.

If you've got fuel at the inlet of the VP44 and positive pressure, then your lift pump is good.

Loosen the nuts of #1, #3 and #4 and crank her over. If you're not getting fuel at any of them, then it's pretty surely a bad VP44. Mine died with only a P1693 as well. It spun freely, but I think it was the electronics that crapped out on mine. It would start on ether, but wouldn't run. And no fuel at any injectors.

Thanks Aggie, I'll break all three lines open. Hate to send it in and pay all that money only to find that not quite all the air got out. Pressure is definitely there (at vp inlet), spraying out all over my hand yesterday. Thanks for the input.

Check the fuel volume you need 1.3 liters in 30 seconds. Those pumps will pump anything(like air) and the gauge will read anything that makes pressure(like air).

AggieJustin, thanks for the pointer. As mentioned the #1 line was cracked. After the first four were opened and bled for the most part it started biting. Figured if #1 wasn't bleeding after that many bumps and cranks it wasn't going. It fired up and runs like a top now. More power, smoother accel., etc. So thanks and I owe you beer or something if I see you.

BTW, their really is a ton of air between the lines and the ip itself for those that need to do their lift pump or injector pump. NO JOKE. 2-3 bumps on the starter then a crank. Repeat about 12 times then wait for it to bite and start hitting the skinny pedal. My mechanic didn't sound so happy that it was running and running well. Thanks badme.

When I swapped my bad VP44 for a loaner pump, we bled a couple of lines figuring that would be good enough (usually is). But after plenty of cranking, finally it would start but idle around 300rpm for a few seconds before stalling. Finally we bled #1-#4, then she fired right up.

It was a little worrisome after having one die and still not getting a start after swapping the pump...never been so happy to hear it start up.

It's the sweetest sound in the world after something like that happens. Thanks again. Feels like it'll drag the camping trailer with no wheels!
