WELL you need to do some checking before you start throwing around that kind of money (1k) but it's right on top, on the driver's side (it's the one with all the fuel lines coming out of it). GOOD LUCK. I would check the codes and the fuel pressure first, but that's just me

BlackD is correct, you should troubleshoot before putting a $1 - $1.4K VP on the truck, you could end up frying that one right away as well, if the IP is shot....
Do you have a FP gauge on the truck? If not, a first-cut look would be to check the fuel filter, make sure it's not plugged / clogged, then get a schrader valve put on the VP side of the fuel filter, and hook up a gauge there to see if you have good - or any! - pressure going to the VP; If all seems well there, the next place to look for fuel is at the injectors, crack a few of them to make sure you've fuel there.
Fill in your signature with everything relevant about your truck, site members can then better assist in troubleshooting / making recommendations -

Edit / Note: Troubleshooting the fuel systems on these things really should include the pickup tube in the tank and all fuel lines to the LP and VP, a plugged tube or pinhole(s) in the lines can shut these trucks down

If you are going to do it yourself replace the lift pump also.
Get your codes read with a code reader and let us know.
This may help if you actually have a bad VP44.

Good luck to you!!
