Well if you don't want to know the answer don't ask.
Keep running it with a shot turbo and you'll get to put a new engine with that new turbo.
I'm not sure that the fuel milage is due to the turbo, but if you have the prop rubbin on the housing then where did that metal go?
100% change your engine allready ate that.
Lotsa smart fellas told you allready though..

This situation sounds like it could get real bad real fast. Sometimes you just got to learn to trust people and not fight with them. I might not know everything but there is a couple of us here and we agree on the same thing. The turbo is gone and if this keeps up you will have a toast engine to go along with that turbo.

Well, im not saying you are wrong I am saying that the guy I know who looked at it is wrong. A friend who has a diesel with a trans shop said that he felt it was fine. He saw it run and said it was ok... I dont want to replace it if I can avoid it thats all. If it was rubbing wouldnt I not be able to make 18psi. He also drove it and said it felt fine. He said that it would be ******* if it was the turbo and I would probably be making smoke. Which i dont. I dunno guys I am going to post a pic of it and you tell me what you think.

I will say this, from experience on my 96 truck, turbo bearing went out,oil was around the impeller blades. You could move the impeller shaft it would touch the housing, and you could see where it had been rubbing. Low boost, I would think you should be making more than 18 psi, I got a nice replacment turbo from city diesel not sure of the web site,I'll try to post it if you want. But it sure sounds to me like your turbo is going.........

Well, I just went out and cleaned out all the grease around the blades. Upon closer inspection there are no marks where the blade has scraped the housing. It is smooth as a babys ***. So I am assuming if its not hitting then there isnt a problem? Lemme post a picture here you go. This is when it was greasy. But now that it is clean it is clear that it has not been rubbing what so ever... 18psi isnt that the stock boost for my truck?

that is a prime example of why we don't recomend that you run the K&N filter. The turbo sucks all the oil out of them like a big vacuum cleaner.
Have you changed the fuel filter? What's your FP? Check for codes. Sell the K&N on Ebay and get the BHAF. I'm sure others will chime in on more possible reasons for the loss in fuel economy.

Oddly enough thats a mopar filter I have in there. It is a tad dirty but I changed it 4500 miles ago. I have a superchip to put in tomorrow. I will check the fp before I install it. What fp should I have for a stock truck? I am really curious about the oil buildup on the turbo as well as the filter. Any ideas other than the filter? Unless the mopar filters are as bad as the k&n. Thanks for your help guys. Oh yeah, one last thing, I am going to put a muffler on it tomorrow. I have a 3.5 inch exhaust that has no muffler or cat, which im assuming my year diesel wouldn't have anyway. Its a straight shot 3.5. I am putting a flow master on it, I was told that I needed a little back pressure to optimize the turbo.. Im not sure if thats true at all bc I am still learning.. Thanks again... Where can I buy the bhaf.. Is it the wax one from vulcan performance?

I just had to replace the turbo on my 2001 with only 78,000 miles because of the same thing. the bearing went out due to oil seal failure. Mine had some oil in it but not nearly as bad as yours. mine would still build 22psi of boost but had lots of up and down play impeller wasn't touching sids but was pretty close. How does yours sound when you shut off the engine and the turbo spools down? Mine would whine on spool down.

No it doesnt I was going by what I was told, It doesnt have an 1/8 of play. It also doesnt whine when it spools down. I wish you guys lived close so I could show you haha. Will a superchip be ok with out a pyro on this truck? I was hoping that it would help my fuel economy a bit. The turbo doesnt wine at all.

You might not want to put the Flowmaster on your truck. It's not a gasser. You don't want any back pressure in a Diesel, no back pressure allows the turbo to spool faster. That's probably why the muffler was taken off already. Send the Flowmaster back and get some gauges.
As for the K&N the previous owner might have had one on and took it off when sold to you. I kept my stock air box.
Where in PA are ya. I'm not too far from PA and tomorrow we are having a DTR Chapter #33 wrenchin day. Here is the link to the post.

believe it or not the previous owner didnt have a filter at all... As for the muffler, I thought that a flowmaster made for diesels would be alright, the straight exauhst I have now is too loud for work(its a work truck) as for the gauges I will get them as soon as I can. I wish I could figure out why I have so much oil caking up on the center housing. I wish I could tell if the whole turbo was shot or not... what about getting a rebuild kit and rebuilding the turbo with new seals and such?

Since you have it clean now I'd watch it closely it to see if it keeps leaking oil. If its leaking you need to rebuild or replace it because if it leaks too much oil into the air side you risk having an engine runnaway

Yeah I will keep an eye on it, I checked it for codes with the superchip and it had a 0336, kcp sensor, I cleared it and have been driving for 2 days and it hasnt blown a code yet.. maybe been there for a while. Still wondering where my mpg is going. No smoke, turbo is pulling 18 psi wot. My exhaust is 3".. i thought stock was 3.5. I must be missing something.. Anyone live near willow grove, pa? I am going to return the superchip and get gauges instead to start. I would really like to figure out why I am only getting 9 mpg before I start to add performance stuff.
