Angry turbo probs again!

well im at it again. i had a oil leakin turbo, so i pulled it off, bought a rebuild kit. Installed it myself, didn't get it balanced (duh bad idea). So that made 2 turbos that i had to replace. So i got to talkin around found on a diesel site for 200$ with 89K on it, bought it and installed it. Changed the oil and filter before i started it again, ran it for bout 100 miles and changed the oil and filter again hoping to get all metal shavings out if there was any. Well i'm back to square one cause this one is leaking oil from both the back and front impeller. I'm totally lost as to why this thing keeps going through chargers like this.

Any help would be greatly appretiated! Thanks!

If things keep going like this i guess i'm gonna have to name her the ChargerEater!

Do the rebuild kits have the bearings & seals?

i'm thinking maybe the seal material and the oil aren't compatable but that's a longshot. i can't think of anything else off hand. good luck

i wouldn't think that would be the case as the oil is used dump trucks, cement mixers and stuff like that every day. Also my friend has a 96 12valve and he's ran it also with no problems.

When i changed the oil i found a big metal shaving prolly 15 in long (may have been shorter or longer not to sure) rolled into a ball i didn't think it was from my motor as the drain barrel is also used for the big trucks. But now that keep going through chargers like this i'm begining to wonder if it was from mine. But if it is where could it be from? I have the same oil pressure that i always had before all the charger problems.

Just a thought here, could it possibly be coming from inside your exhaust manifold? But I guess that wouldn't explain the compressor side leakage...
Are you prefilling the turbo before you install it?

It could be the culprit. What I did when I had mine off a couple times is after everything is bolted up and ready to go I fill it with oil from the top, then I spin the blades by hand a few times and let it take some more oil. I'm sure that starting a dry turbo isn't good, I just don't know if it would cause failure that fast. It is very possible, hopefully someone who's had theirs off more than me will chime in.

I wonder if its the correct turbo?
The pressure seem right and everything, surging, stuff like that?
Maybe if you did'nt buy it new someone else beat you to that turbo?
I know nothing, its just about the only reason I can think of,unless you have a mashed oil line,or something like that.

The turbo thats on it now is a hx35 off of a 96 with 89k on it. Getting in the juice hard it builds about 42psi (which couldnt be good) need to hook waste gate back up i guess. Could high boost be the problem on a stock turbo? All the oil lines look good that i can see unless the braided line collapsed?

Just thought i'd ask.......

If i marked everything in it's current possition, then removed it and put a rebuild kit in it what would be the chances of it working?
