P0500 No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal

that shouldnt affect whether it runs or not

you say you got her back home...so she is running again?

one question for you guys, why would a vehicle speed sensor fault make your truck not run? that is the only code my truck is giving me. got a hot date tomorrow night. don't want to take the carmy.

I don't know but I'd fix it anyways just to make sure you could take the truck on that date.

No.

I had mine disconnected for a week.

Speedometer/odometer, cruise, ABS, and maybe tranny shift points are the only things affected by it.

well i think i'm going to have to do more digging. you can hear the lift pump and everything. i guess i need to go get a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow. i really hope it's not the IP. if you guys have any other idea's i'm at a lost of what it might be, the only code is a P 0500. truck turns over but no fire. i'm going to drain it and change the fuel filter tomorrow morning. see if the is any water or anything. but any idea's would help.

I'm trying to find your other post, but what happened when it just died?

Any smoke, any noise, gradual or sudden?

And the most important one, are you sure you have enough fuel in the tank?

(found the other one, and merged them together, might as well keep all pertinent info in one thread)

other post in 24 driven train. but my buddy was driving it and he said it just died. no nothing. just put it in gear and nothing. you can turn it over and it's like it's out of fuel. but you can hear the lift pump.

here's an update on this deal. lift pump works. talked to the cummins guy at the dealership and he said it should still run. got a fuel pressure gauge and it's got fuel going to gauge. no codes except p 0500. the truck will still run because my roomates truck has the same code. any thoughts or suggestions? i'm trying not to think to out of the box because it might be something small. i don't know at a lost here.

try cracking a few of the injector lines and crank it over....it should squirt out fuel. If not then try the apps reset procedure
if none of those work..then i would have to say that your VP44 is dead or your APPS is dead. maybe someone else will have a better idea than myself.

Not to rain on your parade but when my VP44 died (two weeks ago tonight) I was driving down the road, minding my own business then,....silence where there should have been Cummins Clatter.
16 psi at the inlet of the VP44, no Warning, no Hiccup, no Codes and no Check Engine Light.

Andy,
yeah i'll try the fuel lines tomorrow and the apps.

Shovelhead,
After yours bit the dust could you still pull fuel out of the schrader vavle? mine had good pressure. but that was with the LP running after i bumped the motor. I just hope it is something else if the fuel lines and the APPS don't work looks like i'll be taking it into dodge.

I think i'm going go play the lottery tonight. since my luck is at rock bottom. can only go higher from here.

Thanks, I let you guys know how it turns out

When the truck died, I glanced at the FP gauge and still saw 16 psi.

I was also getting 16 psi when the lift pump was running while cranking the engine.
