Truck Wont Start!!

Got up this morning to leave the house and I turned the key, let the grid heater cycle twice, pushed in the clutch and cranked it, and.....nothing. Just a clicking sound (not the starter) So I got a buddy to turn the key while I listened. The clicking was coming from a fuse in the panel on my wheel well. I pulled the cover and located the fuse that was clicking ( one of those black square ones) then I noticed a spot where there should be a fuse, there was a small bolt in there ( for the blower motor I think) to jump it instead of a fuse and when the key was on it would spark a little. I have had this truck for a year now and never had any problems with starting (besides my solenoid relay) why would it cause probs now?? Anyhow I had my buddy try turning it over again and this time it engaged the starter and then quit, this happened twice, then nothing again. Is it a loose wire? I checked all the wires on the starter. I am at a loss and I need to get on the road asap. I got a load of calves to take to the sale barn..

Thanks
Tom

Soundfs like you have a loose connection somewhere. Id clean the battery connections to start. If you have sparking it means theres not a good solid connection.

sounds like a feeder wire in the fuse box has burnt up. pull it off the wheel well and open it up and look for burnt wires and connections. I think the starter relay is in there too. Any time you see a jumper in place of a fuse you know major problems are getting ready to happen. Keep a fire extinguisher handy and a set of cable cutters!!!

FarmBoy, has the contacts been replaced in the starter solenoid?

Have you had any incidents of the starter not turning but making clicking sounds and then starting after repeated trys. If so, this is a sure sign of worn out solenoid cantacts.

Its your starter contacts, I just did the repair on sunday myself.
To my suprise getting the starter off was easier than that on a SB chevy.
Get yourself the starter repair kit, (have tons on ebay) and IN an hour and a half your set.

Make sure you have the 10mm (if i remember correctly) 12 point wrench , youll know why when you get there
