Truck Will Not Start

TRUCK WOULD NOT START BACK UP YESTERDAY AFTER RUNNING FOR 2hrs. GOT IT STARTED BY THE OLD SCREWDRIVER ACROSS THE STARTER BOLT. TOOK THE STARTER OFF AND HAD NEW CONTACTS PUT ON. REINSTALLED THE STARTER AND STILL NOTHING. NO CODES PRESENT. CHECKED THE FUSES ALL GOOD.

when you did this did you smell anything burning like burnt wires? also, did you put the contacts in yourself? and if so, did you inspect the starter further? i've seen starters fry a wire inside into two halves and there fore it obviously wouldn't work. i hope someone will help us out here too. i know how frustrating this can be...

hmmmm, dang, if a shop rebuilt it, then theoretically they should know what that they are doing. so let's say that they do. but you do have power right, no bad fuse/relay. other than that i'm stumped for know, i'll keep thinking though, good luck to ya man.

first off, no problem for my time, i'm always glad to help a fellow CTD'er out. but i don't think there's any other fuses or anything that you can check. i'm sorry, but you've got me stumped on this, try posting this in the 2nd gen forums too and see if you get any hits. but i'll still sleep on it and let you know. like i said, i really do know how frustrating this can be so i wanna help you out but you got me stumped on this one, but i'll let you know, good luck again..

Id check the nuetral safety switches next.

Also, do the accessories (such as radio) turn off when you turn the key to crank? Im not sure if they do on your model, i know mine, they shut off while the engine cranks. This may help narrow down if the igntion is even engaging start, or if the computer is sensing the start signal as well.

Have you checked for power on the starter yet? You should have a constant 12volt on the large red cable, then when you turn the key over, you should have 12volt on the small wire on the solenoid. You need to make sure you are getting power to the starter, then go from there.

You say you got it started by jumping the starter with a crew driver. When you took the starter to the shop, did they test it first, and what did they come up with?
If you jumped it with the screwdriver, that means there is power at the starter. When you put the starter back on, did you wire it backwards?
You need to ensure power on the hot line.

What did the shop say was wrong? I can't believe they didn't test it. I would take it back.
