Trans will not unlock, Truck stalls when taking off and stopping.

Help
Truck is stuck here at work
Getting it towed home but need ideas on what to look at.

The truck still shifts fine, O/D button works as normal.
But the truck is locked up in first gear right after putting it in drive.(or 1st/2nd gear)
The truck stalls unless you supply enough throttle when taking off.
And stalls when you stop unless you put it in neutral

First off, Do you have an external lockup controller or a lock up switch, if not, there could only be a few issues. The control wire for lockup is in the middle pcm connector and is B11 it is an orange wire with a black tracer. The pcm grounds this wire when lockup is requested either the converter is stuck... which is extremely rare, the TCC clutch solenoid inside the trans is stuck or the orange wire with black stripe is shorted to ground somewhere. Good luck

I do not have an external lockup controller or a lock up switch.

All stock besides for this is a Goerend trans w/ triple disc converter.

I have one of those "noise reducers" on that orange wire with a black tracer under the hood (at the top of firewall)

When I first got the truck it was shaking when locking up... so I installed the electrical noise reducer or whatnot... it seemed to help a little.

Thanks for the info tractorguyacb

Not yet,
I bought this trans used from a guy here on DTR...It's been a great trans so far... at least 10-15 tanks of fuel.

I did get into the throttle hard a few nights ago.

Today I was at a long stop light and put the truck in Neutral,
Then when I put it back in Drive it was fine for about 1 second, then the TC locked up and almost stalled out the truck....It was shifting early also, I had to turn O/D off to drive it... Put it in Neutral at stop lights, then put it back in drive and get on it to go. Luckily I was about 2 miles from work and got her into the parking lot

Just disconnected the "noise reducer" or this mentioned here
http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmi...TPS_adjust.htm

No effect.
Still locks up after 1-2 seconds in Drive.

I guess it's time to trace that orange wire with black stripe back.
and call Goerend

Does it make any difference if you put it into 1 from N when starting from a stop?
Does it do the same thing in R as in D?

Should be position B11 at the PCM. You could pull the pin to check electrical operation.

BTW, it drags the solenoid to ground to operate ( TCC and OD has 12V present at the solenoid all the time ), so a chaffed wire would engage it continuously.

No.... Drive, 2nd and 1st all do the same thing.
Good for about 1 second, then it locks the TC

Reverse works perfectly.
no stalling or locking up.

FWIW- I had this same exact thing happen to me last December- it wasn't good.
I had been out all night plowing snow - had to drive it home in first and shift into neutral at the stop lights.

Converter clutch lockup mechanism failed and sent clutch material through the entire transmission- complete rebuild.
Find it before driving it much then get a fluid/filter change done in case the clutch is shedding.
