Trans. Temp light/ No overdrive

95 3500 4x4 auto and cummins. The trans. temp light stays on all the time. Even when cold and not running just the key on. I've changed the sensor and it made no difference. I'd be happy just by passing the whole thing I've got a manual gauge. Any help would be great. Thanks

Most people with '95s use the same port where the stock sensor is installed for their aftermarket gauge and jump across the sensor leads with a 1000 ohm resistor(25¢ Radio Shack) and put the sensor in your garage. This port gives the best tranny temp readings, if you are reading the temp in the pan or from one of test ports on the tranny your readings are wrong.

Now to your current problem. Unplug the connector to the stock sensor and jump across the leads with the 1k resistor. This will trick the computer into thinking you're at the normal operating temp. If this doesn't fix it you most likely have a wiring problem or less likely a computer (PCM) problem.

Does anyone know how to determine if the problem is a wire or the computer?
How do I check the computer? Is there any certain place in the harness prone to trouble? thanks
