Re:Trans howling after band adjustment?????

Well, it's not like the old days when a trans would cost you $500.00. I used to think that was too much so I built them myself with pretty good results. The problem with the new ones is that with the advent of electronics that have been added to control the trans, it's much harder diagnosing your problems. I would be really pi$$ed if I spent $3500.00 on a beefed up trans and still had the same shifting problems because of a bad solonoid or ground wire!!

Re:Trans howling after band adjustment?????

I didn't spend that much, just $1800.00 for stock rebuild, and I KNOW, BAD DECISION. The Clowns said that they replaced 2 of the sensors on the tranny because they didn't "ohm" right. when it started messing, I called and asked which ones they replaced, I was told "OH They are on the inside". That's funny, where do the fricking wires plug in at. I've already seen first hand how this company handles thier warranty. The owner hides in a back room, while the service writer almost gets beat to death buy a really ****** off 300 lb. black guy with a screwed up cadilac tranny. He did escape to the office. Thank God the Police wasn't far away. I guess I'll just have to let them meet MUPHASA, 175 lbs. of butt biting Rottwieller. Maybe I could let him sit behind the seat, and when they get in to drive it, he'll think it's being stolen... , but then I'd have to clean up the mess ;D

Well I can just sing a song of praise for DTT- maybe you should try to phone Bill K and see if he can steer you right. I've got the DC manual and a DMM ( runs around 20$) and have found lots of problem sources with that. Temp and pressure sensors etc are easily checked.
If you find some mechanical problems in your tranny go for a full rebuild with better parts.
Especially the stock TC is some let's say inefficient part. I've got a DTT TC and the truck was much better to drive than stock- no more revving to 2800 just to get moving sincerely.
I'd say shop around for a good combo of TC, VB uprated clutches and stuff.

AlpineRAM

Re:Trans howling after band adjustment?????

sounds like you overtightened it...just did mine, 72 inch/lbs for the front isn't tight at all ( i was surprised how little it was) and backed off 1 7/8 turn...works well, shifts nicer..if i had guessed, i would of DEFINITELY overtightened it..good luck

Re:Trans howling after band adjustment?????

Actually, I wasn't tightening the bands tight enough. I was surprised at how much more I had to tighten it to get to 72 inch/pounds. I have adjusted them correctly and the trans is not much better than before. The howling is still there but it is not as bad. It only happens under load and only at a certain strain on the trans. Once I pass that point, it stops. I'm currently looking for a spare trans I can rebuild myself as I am capable of this operation ( I just don't feel like doing it myself). I used to build all my own transmissions when I drag raced.
