Trans Hot line Replacement

In the AM I'm installing my trans temp, boost, and egt gauge, already have mechanical fuel gauge. I have the replacement hot line from Diesel manor waiting to go on. Someone mentioned to remove the rear of the hot line from the trans first. Why? How much fluid will I loose and and what direction will the fluid be coming from, the trans or from the end of the hot line. Trans was just serviced less than 100 miles ago so I'm hoping to reuse the fluid if I don't get any gunk in it.

Thanks

The fluid will drain from both , but it will run from the trans for a few minutes , it will drain the torque converter.

I lost maybe a half quart, and I wasn't even trying to catch it.

You will lose 4 qts if you let it drain but if you work fast while it's draining can keep it under 1 qt

Thanks everyone, all went well. I only lost maybe 1/2 qt of fluid and that was with letting it drip. Yes fluid was at the full mark. It did come (what little there was) from both ends. Unbolt the old hot line, install the new one, easy as pie, anyone want a stocker, of course for a price .

The pyro gage was just as easy, drill and tap the manifold all of maybe 20 minutes and the boost bolt is the bomb. All the hard things took maybe 2 hours but getting all the electrical into the pillar took some work. Finding 12v switch power wasn't hard but finding the dimmer source took some digging under the dash. All in all, taking my time and triple checking everything with my bro-in-law we spend about 4 hours for the 3 gauges, trans, boost and pyro all in a 3 gauge pillar custom panted (well not custom but matching my interior color) Very happy but will be posting questions in the 2nd gen performance area as my pyro is reaching 1300* with only an EZ that can't be good for towing.

Again thanks for everything everyone.

Bill.
