trailer brakes locked up

Just bought electronic brake controller and hooked all the wires up. Plugged my 6 prong in to the 7 prong converter and tried to take off and the brakes are locked and i cant move the trailer. Is there something i missed or forgot to do? All lights and markers work.

Often, the trailer brake and battery charge wires are reversed in the 7-to-6 adapter. That's why your trailer brakes lock up - they have a constant +12VDC being applied from the truck's batteries through the battery charge terminal. Some adapters even have an easy provision to swap these wires. The 6-pin plug unfortunately doesn't have a standard wiring configuration that's as commonly accepted as the 7-pin flat blade (Pollack-type) connector on our trucks.

I had the same problem with my adapter. Check to make sure all or your lights and signals are working first. My adapter had a place were the aux power and the brake wires chould be switched. My problem was actually when the adapter was put together it was rotated 1/2 way around on mine.

Did you try to move the trailer without the plug hooked up?

If i unhook the plug, the trailer does move. My dad was saying something about that i have to run a wire from the fuse box back to the trailer so that the brakes will unlock. Don't really no why i would have to do that.

Have you read the posts above? They explain your problem, and no, you don't need to run any additional wires.

You have the wrong adapter. They make 2 different 7 to 6 pin adapters. I made the same mistake when I first started and had to get the other adapter.

Best Advice: Put a 7 pin plug on your trailer. Most new trailers, have them, and of course all new trucks have them, save you alot of grief in the long run and cheaper than buying an adapter. I know you have already bought the adapter, but from experience the adapter will get lost at some point!

My 2 cents!
