Greetings!<br><br>Just got my 1992 D250/LE/Ext cab Cummins Turbo yesterday! Yahoo!! <br><br>150k miles, 1 owner, CLEAN, Exc. paint and interior, $4950... not bad, eh?<br><br>Found out the rear drums and brakes were KAPOOT. Fixed them today. NOW when I turn or go into a curve I get a rumbly/grindy sort of noise and vibration (mild but noticeable, more noticeable when going slow or turning a corner from stop). It even happens when coasting in neutral. Not affected by braking.<br><br>I will pull front wheels tomorrow, but could it be something other than wheel bearings? Like Trans or U-joints or something? Auto trans shifts smoothly through all gears.<br><br>I am NEW to diesel ownership and I need H-E-L-P!!!!<br><br>Thanks!

 

Has the rear end fluid been changed recently?<br>If so, they probably didn't add the Additive to the rear diff.<br>Sounds like the posi could be chattering at low speeds.<br>Get a package of &quot;Additive&quot; at the dealer (best stuff to use)<br>add 1/2 of the package to the rear differential, then find a large parking lot and do 7 or 8 figure 8s at low speed in the lot. <br>This will help force the additive into the posi clutches.<br>If it still chatters add the rest.

 

what shovelhead said. I would drain it and start over. If you add too much friction modifier it will render Limited slip useless.<br>After you fill,take it out to your local mall parking lot and do a bunch of tight figure eights to work the stuff into the clutches.<br>Tim

what oil is recommended for the differential?<br><br>Any motor oil recommendations? <br>Does anyone use Synthetic?

 

I am running Amsoil 75-140w. I hear Royal Purple is good also.<br>Some have found they don't need the friction modifier with the synthetic, however mine chattered without it. I think it depends on how new the clutches are. DC actually recommends (requires?) synthetic if you are towing.<br>Tim

 

hi i have 92 fwd 2500 king cab and had the same trouble at 144000 miles change fluid and additive but didnt help ended up replacing clutch paks local shop charged 325.00 so not to bad but i would try additive first and go from there
