Steering Gear Broke - virtual loss of steering and braking

Yesterday my steering and braking capability was seriously damaged while in a parking lot (luckily). The symptoms closely resemble those in a recent Dodge recall notice (H46) but my dealer said the steering gear failed sending shards of metal into the brake fluid and brake booster, which was different from recall. This would have been catastrophic had I been on highway. Has this happened to anyone else?

Never heard of it before. Wonder how the metal found its way into the brake fluid? I wish you luck!

Wow that's a first... never seen that before 25 years with Dodge.

Just curious. The brake system is closed. How can the metal get in there?

The "fluid system" that would have been contaminated was the hydroboost assy. The steering gear, and the hydroboost should be changed and all the lines cleaned out. I've seen a couple steering gears fail that badly, but usually the rest of the truck told the story.
