starting problem

still having a problem... the fass is running 16 psi and 14 wot but I have a starting problem that was not there before . it seems to be starting fine 75% of the time but the other 25% I need to crank on it for 10 + seconds before it fires I pulled the codes and all is clear . do you have any idea why it would be doing this? it acks like the fuel is running back to the tank and air is getting in.I have retightend checked, rechecked all fitting and even put clamps on the push on fitting it starts fine every morning but just during the day it will happen. and not all the time .have you ever seen this happen? is the fuel pressure (16psi)to high ? what I have seen is that the fuel gage will sometimes drop to 0 faster then other times and even hold at like 1/2 psi im stumped . any help would be great
thanks Robert

ps its an 01 24v

i had that happen to my 99 and it was caused by air getting in the lines from the lift pump to the injector pump. I had the put a new line from the lift pump to the fuel canister with new rubber washers.. let me know if that helps

FYI I found the problem it seems the vp44 has a weak spring in it (some where) any how with the fass it now has to much fuel pressure for that spring. So now i have 3 options .1 rebuild vp #2 install a manual switch on the fass(NOT!)and turn the pump on after it starts. Or this one ...install a oil pressure switch so the the fass only comes on after 4-6 psi oil pressure.

has any one had to do this?

I was told the same thing bout 2 years ago. The spring is in the banjo bold on the input line to the pump. I changed mine out, with no improvement. The long start got worse, but only with warm or hot engine. No codes thrown.... Bad VP-44......
