Speedo Acting Up....need Quick Help!!

My stupid speedometer is still actiing up. i have a guy coming to look at my 1997, and I dont want it jumping around. I want it fixed.

I changed out the rear speed sensor on the differential, and it is still jumping around. In the past, I have pulled the plug in the side of the tranny and cleaned it. This has helped for a short period of time. I want it fixed permanantly.

Any ideas? I guess I will just pull the plug and clean it.

My 97 did the same thing and although this is not the quick fix, the permanent fix was to replace the speedo. I bought one from a slavage and adjusted the miles on it to match the original and it has worked perfectly since.

The actual speedo in the dash. It cost me about $125 and i had to buy the whole instrument cluster to get the speedometer.

Does your speedo stay at 0 mph until you get to 35mph or so than it jumps up? My dakota did that and the dealer changed the rear output speed sensor and fixed it. I believe that they can't be cleaned and must be replaced. I tried cleaning the output sensor sensor on my tranny on the dakota when that went bad and I was getting poor shifting and a check engine light. I then got a new sensor from the dealer and replaced it myself and it took care of that.

it is a 2wd. 5speed. I changed out the rear speed sensor. I cured the Cruise COntrol and ABS, BRake lights staying on.

I had a guy come look at it, and he wants to buy it. Eventhough the speedo is not working properly. He asked if I could fix it, and I told him I would try.

I was honest about everything, and I think he respected that.
