Smokin after start up

I have an 05 2500 6 speed i bought used with 12000 miles on it and now have 17000. After sitting for a day or so when i crank her up she smokes white/blue for a little while. Is this something i need to have checked out?

Not really an issue unless theres ungodly amount of smoke. Diesels commonly smoke a little on fire up but should dissapear quickly. You should change your fuel filter and put some powerservice additive in it. There is a reflash for white smoke during startup that your dealer can do. You can do a search on here for the tsb before you go and take it with you. But I wouldnt worry about it if its not extensive.

My 02 does the same thing first thing on a cold morning. Basically its a cold engine start up. If you keep the truck in a warm garage and plugged in... It won't smoke at all... It about the morning starting temp.

If you really want to see smoke... Don't wait for the light and hit key key. It will rattle for a bit but during this time it will pour out white smoke heavy...

Maybe this will shed a bit of light for you...
Don't worry about it... It's a cummins it will last forever...

thats normal diesel starting....the cylinders are really cold...and the fuel just doesnt get burned properly in the first 20 secs or so....do the "wait to start procedure" a couple times ...even three times if u want and it will almost go away

I dont think temperature is an issue as our lows have been in the low to mid 70's
