Silencer ring on turbo inlet

I'm sure this topic been addressed before, but is there any benefit other than more noise to remove the ring in the turbo inlet. I believe it is in there to reduce turbo noise?? Any harm in removing it, if a guy like myself liked the noise?

Thanks

Re:Silencer ring on turbo inlet

Multiple tests have been run by different people on the advantages of the removal of the ring.

Bottom line appears to be Zero gain in performance or function either way. Just an audible gain in turbo noise when removed.

Run it the way you like it

What's a "Scotty hole"? It sounds like I need one, I like the noise.

Took mine off. No difference in performance but my wife started starring at me going down the road. I finally said "What?" She asked "Did you turn your whistle up?" ;D ;D ;D

Scotty hole = hole in cowling to feed cool air to the huge Scotty air cleaner. When this hole is put in the cowling it lets into the cab much more turbo noise and the whistle from the missing ring is beautiful. ;D ;D

Stan

I found that my silencer ring works best when placed in the top drawer of my tool box!

Rich

Re:Silencer ring on turbo inlet

I recently made an attempt to pull my silencer ring, only to find it was stuck in there pretty good. I'd like to remove it without damaging it (or worse yet, the inlet!)
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Re:Silencer ring on turbo inlet

I used a couple of screwdrivers and worked it out. Mine was sitting in a groove but it came right out. I could tell a noticable difference in sound.

Re:Silencer ring on turbo inlet

I used a small eyeglass sized screwdriver to get under there and get it started, then a standard one to get the rest of it.

Barely noticable with the stock airbox.

More noticable with muffler removed.

Very soon will have the BHAF in (sitting in garage waiting for heat shield)

Then it will be ;D (don't need a Scotty II yet [undecided] )

phox
