Remove locking gas cap without key?

I forgot my gas key. The overhead says 70 miles to empty and I'm 60 miles from home. Anyone know how to get it off? Doesn't matter if I destroy it as I hate it anyhow. Thanks.

Unless you have another key that you might just get to work, no.

You can basically pop the top off the cap with your tire iron or a large screwdriver. Then use some channel locks to unscrew it. You can also wedge the screwdriver or tire iron in the grooves to get it started to move. No biggie. They are essentially worthless as an antitheft device.......more like a deterrant, but far from fool proof.

Or know someone that is good with picking locks. Took my friend Fearless Freddi about 2 minutes in the dark when I lost the key to the gascap on a van I had.

I take them off all the time with a pair of channel locks, just squeeze and turn cap. They only keep the honest thief out.

you can either get it off by pushing down while turning it or squeeze opposite sides of the cap while turning.

Thanks, got it off.
Pried it up and broke the top partially off, unscrewed it.
