puking oil, need help!!!!

sorry i havent been here in quite a while, and show up needing help.
my truck on a recent trip started smoking from the blowby tube slowly at a food stop.
about a 1oo miles from home decided to try and make it home.
starting off had a slight miss.immeditly straighens up and comes home.off the interstate at the first light smoke comes out the front bad,has a terrible miss?
at home truck has tons of oil underhood.
when i left for the trip changed the oil,i did overfill by a quart, figured no biggy.went about 980 miles before the trouble started.
i have been to 5 star dealerships, been told a rebuild is the remedy.
asked why,for compression test results, computer info, etc to be told they can tell by just looking and listening?
just dont believe im going to change thier minds?
i special ordered this truck in 2001 and it has never let me down and always brought me back home, and got the job done no matter what the task!!!!
it has been my best friend for 5 years.
with that i would be the first to fix anything on the truck out of respect for the five hard years of cranking every time and giving me the security in my company and personal life .
i have read lots of posts and problems here and i just cant swallow that it is blown.lots of guys on here have tons of experience to help. me and my wife to fix it ourselfs with u guys help.
we will try the vaccum lines first for leaks, than the compression test next?should we start there?? please help us!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can pull codes on an '01. Does the oil smell like fuel? I'm thinking a injector let go and filled it with fuel. Fuel in the crankcase won't hurt it much, but you might have wrecked a piston.

Quit driving it just in case you have a burned piston. No sense scoring the cylinder walls. A burned piston is the worst case that can happen, and if they are caught in time it means one piston and a new headgasket.

The warning over, the symptoms you describe sound to me like a blown headgasket, but you need to have a good diagnosis done by a skilled diesel mechanic to know for sure.

The injectors on the 2001 seldom will blow a tip, and when they do there is no question as to the problem as you will have one cylinder that is really rough or completely dead. The oil level may start to rise, and you will blow white smoke all the time.

A headgasket failure can make it run rough and puke oil, put coolant in the oil, or oil in the coolant, or both, or neither.

If you do not have a good independent diesel shop nearby, go to a Cummins Service Center. Either one will do a through diagnostic and compression test, before they lay a wrench to the truck. The diagnostic service by a competent diesel mechanic will not be free, but it will be money well spent.

How many miles on your truck? Might still be under warranty. you know the 136,000. Check your owners manual, your Cummins warranty starts after the 36,000 expires. Read your manual very closely. It's there.
ps take the Superchip off before goin in and don't say anything about it. Mums the word.

my 01' did that once, the seal between the vp44 and the timing case poped and I filled the case with fuel, I cought it before it lost any oil pressure but it made a mess.

how is the oil level? smell?

does the radiator smell like fuel?

only 3 ways to get oil in your radiator. one being a blown headgasket and the other being a internal crack in the block and last a bad or cracked oil cooler. i would have the oil cooler checked and if its ok then its more than likely a headgasket and i am willin to bet money on that one

Long block, or short block would be your two choices.

I would test compression first to check each cylinder. If okay, I would crack each injector fuel line until I found one that did not change idle speed to locate bad injector. Tear down would be very last resort.

i dont know why you guys are tellin him to get a long block or short block or even check the injectors. i have only heard of injectors going bad on common rails. more than likely its a oil cooler or a headgasket. if it had a horrible knock then i would assume a piston or other, but i bet its just a head gasket.
