Projector Headlights??

I installed a set of JDM projector headlights in my 02 ram. The problem i am having is that when i switch from low to high beam both light dim out, almost like theres not enough power to run both the projector and the high beam. Any ideas??

I'm not familiar with the wiring on the '02 but on the 1st gen trucks, the switch could barely handle the stock headlights and often burned up with just them so we often add a relay so that the switch just switches the relay and the relay handles the current to the lights. Lots brighter that way. A separate relay may solve your problem too.

Like I said, I don't know the '02 wiring but the concept would be to use the factory wiring to trigger the coil on the relay. Then use a fused wire from the battery to the contact side of the relay and then connect the other side of the relay contacts to the headlight. I'd assume that you'd need 2 relays; one for high and one for low beams. I don't know what the amp draw of your new lights are but make sure that the relay is rated to handle that amp load. Most auto parts stores will have relays designed for driving lights. Those may be adequate. Supplies that you would need should be 2 relays, 2 heavy gauge in-line fuses to protect the circuit, some 12 or 10 gauge wire, and some wire ends to connect to the headlights, battery, and relays. The circuit would similar to the one below for driving lights except that you would be powering the headlights instead of driving lights and you'd be using the factory headlight switch instead of a toggle switch.

Hope that this helps

Make sure you mount the relays with the contacts facing downwards otherwise the relay case will fill with water eventually.
