Power steering leak
Power steering leak
My steering gearbox is leaking at the pitman arm seal. I'm quite sure that I've read on here before that the shaft is known to get loose and take out the seal. (side play) I've done some searches with not much luck. I've read that alot of guys are replacing the steering box for $100.00 is this true? and where did you get one? Also there was a company that made a shaft support that attached to the frame. does anyone know about that?
Thanks Scott

The source of the steering bracket is www.solidsteel.biz.
I have one and it took a little slop out of the steering.
I wasn't having any steering box problems though, installed it as a preventative measure,
time will tell if it prevents what you are seeing.
Make sure you get the DSS from the right place, the solidsteel.biz is the one ran by the D of the DSS
(Darin of Darin's Steering Stabilizer)
There is an imitator going by the name solidsteel.ca.
Darin's old disgruntled partner.

Mine started leaking around 20,000 miles or so, I went to the dealer and bought a seal kit, took me less than an hour to insatll and has never leaked since -- around 15 bucks if i recall, cheaper and easier than a new gearbox anyway......................Take the drag link off and the nut that holds the pitman arm, start the truck and turn the wheel all the way left or right hard, the pressure will blow the old seal the rest of the way out for you, then just re-install the new.
have somebody turn the steering wheel back and forth while you watch to see if the shaft has any play side to side,if it does you need more than just a seal, i had alot of movement in the shaft on my truck...
